  • ** NEW Software, Skin Designer, Drivers (XP & Vista Compatible & Faster!!!)

Ok I have uploaded to the website the newest version of the software. This includes a full new version of the main program that works fully, but of course more features are to come. Such as 180Hz to 200Hz burst transfer speeds (short time only), and about 120Hz stable but high CPU load. 30Hz to 40Hz is still best and good enough for most cases. But I have added the ability to change the update rate on the fly. So you want to get 200 data points a second of your 0-60 drag? Push the accelerated sample rate button, do your thing, and press normal mode again. And voila. 200 points a second. Also this is now all outputted to a human readable XML file, and will be able to read by a soon to be released HTML/javascript reader that is mentioned elsewhere on the forums.

Also available is the newest skin designer which will automatically get the installed hardware ID of the Fusion Brain making it more user friendly with the new drivers. It has some errors. The biggest is that right now you can only select "Blink LEDs" 1 time. Any time more, and it wont work. I dont know why, and I will fix it first. Some updates to the skin designer you will find (that sounds sort of Yoda-esque ) is on the Analogue Configuration page where the sort of vague and mysterious labels are replaced with self-directed questions. It makes sense when you see it. Hopefully that is how the whole software will be unless people have objections. Do you guys prefer it like this (?'s) or do you prefer the simpler mystery labels and values?

You NEED the version 2.0 drivers for hardware for the skin designer and main program to work now. This switches the way the brain communicates. It now communicates through the win_usb DLL by Microsoft which is wonders above the Microchip DLL which seemed to be written by monkeys and was horribly inneficient and incompatable. All fixed now. You need the instance ID to get the device to respond. This means you can have up to 127 devices on the same computer and control them independantly which is a vast imporvement from the 4 previously. Also we will be phasing out the older firmware versions. If you have a firmware version over 1, please do not use the software yet. It only supports Firmware version 1 right now... Hang on for the update, it is on the list. To enter your hardware ID, open the skin file and change the "#SETDEVICEINSTANCE#MyBrain0|USB\VID_04D8&PID_000C \5&1507E3A6&0&1" line to "#SETDEVICEINSTANCE#MyBrain0|YOURDEVICEID" and the software will do the rest. For those of you who tried the beta version of this, please delete the *.inf file you had to create, and put that info in the skin file.

Also updated is the Black Skin Version 2 on the site now and is included in the new software downloads. This includes the actual skin file as well as the PSD's and jpgs. It has some added features, but not all of them of course.

I am sure there is more I am forgetting.... Oh well. When I remember I will post.

I hope you guys enjoy this new software as it has been the longest span between updates, and I think it is completely worth it.

The most anticipated update I think is the COM object. Dont get excited yet. I havent finished it, as I havent had the time to devote to it. So I asked somebody to help me out but this is his holy time, so probably nothing will come out until either I have more time, or the end of the holiday.

Everything can be found here of course and new is Version 2.0: http://www.fusioncontrolcentre.com/F...g/software.php

    Enjoy.

wow, that's an awsome idea to allow really high resolution data when needed, but without slowing the machine to a crawl overall, nice job

so how can I tell what firmware version I have?, I have 1 beta board & one double boxed package that is really going to be opened, any day now...

I think you have 3 right? Only the version #1 (which for you would be the beta board) will work with the skin designer right now. However, you can still make changes in the actual skin file manually for multiple boards. But I am having difficulity with multiple ids right now, so for now, I would only use 1.

And only double boxed now? So you opened one layer in how many months now?

perhaps. I have midterms all this next week and the week after I have only 1, so needless to say, it wont be coming for at least 2weeks.

Doh! That is probably what I forgot.

            From the readme:

These instances each have an "Instance ID" which is a very boring string of numbers and ampersands like this: 5&38631973&0&1 This is unique to each device plugged into a unique hub. So the average Fusion Brain user will only have 1 connected to some port. You will only have 1 instance. But if you have 3, you can now choose which to send to. Also this will now work with a generic VIDPID which is the middle part.

Now to find this instance ID, you need to go to your Device Manager, and select it from the driver's details tab's dropdown.

Now you need to take this ID, and put it into your skin file. Open up the skin and in the ">>MAIN" section there should be a line called #SETDEVICEINSTANCE#". If there isnt, then create it. Now the syntax for this is #SETDEVICEINSTANCE#_NAME_OF_BRAIN_|_ID_OF_BRAIN_" So for above, the line would read "#SETDEVICEINSTANCE#MyBrain|USB\VID_04D8&PID_000C\ 5&38631973&0&1" and "MyBrain" is whatever you want to name your brain for easy skin coding later. Then everywhere in the skin file where it asks for VIDPID, you now enter "MyBrain" instead. So to change an entire skin file's device, it is a 1 line change as opposed to a 35 time or more change.

I had the older version fusion control software and drivers working correctly. I downloaded the new app and the new hardware driver. When installing the driver, I get a message that it doesn't like the INF, and says there is something missing, but I cannot find a way to find out what it is wanting to see. This is on XP SP2. Any ideas?

No hurry, I'm not using it in production. Good luck with your finals.

Ok, I need some help with the drivers:

I finally pulled out the ol' brain, powered it up, got the blue light, plugged into a vista machine, usb style. And I get the usb not recognized message, it wants to call it an Unknown Device. So, seeing similar stuff before, no red flags really come up yet. I mosey on over to the Unknown Device Proprties window, click the 'change settings button', click the Driver Tab, Click 'Update Driver' (after looking at the driver details real quick, where it says that no drivers are required or installed for this device) and 'Browse for driver software on my computer' C:\HardwareDrivers\ - include subfolders. It doesn't see anything there. It says that the best driver software for my device is already installed...Unknown Device.

Can you make a short step-by-step for me?

What is the VID/PID under the driver details? And did you just receive your brain like a week or so ago?

I got mine a while ago, right about with the first wave of brains that went out.
It says unknown in the driver details.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me, but here is my answer if it is.
                      Device ID is: USB\VID_04D8&PID_000C\4&338F3FFA&0&2
I did just get the brain, probably about 2 weeks ago.

For those having troubles with the drivers, I guess some versions of XP like to see "[ClassInstall32]" in the driver and I did not put it in there.

So if it fails to install, open the driver in Notepad. Then right before the string declarations, add a line called "[ClassInstall32]". That should be the only thing on the line. Save and try to reinstall.

Any ideas for "USB Device Not Recognized" - Unknown Device? My computers don't even want to look for a driver for it.

you said you got it a while ago. Have you ever used it at any point, or is this the first time you've gotten to play with it?

Are you providing 12 volts to the board? Is the blue LED lighting up?
