  • ** NEW Fusion Brain Version 6, Pre-Order NOW **

    Hi all,

We have a new Fusion Brain coming out, Version 6. This new FB is improved in almost every way. Here are some highlights:

31 Digital Outputs: Each output can sink 500mA, and has a status LED to show state
15 Analogue Inputs: Each input is now a 3.3v 10bit sensor port. Giving accuracy of 0.0032v accuracy versus the current 0.0049v accuracy.
32bit Processor running at 80MHz (80 Million Instructions Per Second/MIPS): This is a brand new cream of the crop microcontroller. Internal CPU speed has increased by 500%. The current microcontroller's base was designed in 1975 whereas this new one was designed in 2007. It uses less power, is more accurate, is faster, and is jus plain awesome.
1.88in x 2.9in / 47.75mm x 73.5mm Form Factor: Less than 3mm wider, and 4mm longer than the Fusion Brain Version 4 gains us x2 the amount of outputs and 2 additional sensor ports.
Available Case: With the new design comes a new option! The availability of a case to put your shiny new Fusion Brain into. This makes it a complete design with an extra level of professionalism.
92% efficient Switched Mode Power Supply Design, < 1% accuracy: The current Fusion Brain, all Fusion Brain's before it, and all competitors use a linear regulator for power. It is cheap and easy, but the output varies with temperature and load, and will skew sensor readings depending on just how hot or how much stuff you have being powered. Not to mention that they are about 11% efficient on a good day, and get really hot. The new FBv6 uses a SMPS where the output will stay constant and accurate to less than 1% of nominal no matter the temperature or load. This will make all sensor readings more accurate, draw less power from the system, and it wont get nearly as hot.
Much improved signal routing: The new efficient layout is more professional and more tuned to avoid interference than previous versions. To handle the increased current needs of all those outputs, the layout has been extremely beefed up. You will notice a definate artwork quality about the layout if you look close enough!

What happened to Version 5 you may ask? Well it never left prototyping status about a year ago. We wouldnt want to release something we werent happy with, so we didnt release it. This new version was enough of a new device, that it required its own denomination. Calling this a 5.1 would just be cruel. It is a huge evolutionary leap forwards for Fusion Control Centre!

How much will all this new mojo cost? Well, short answer is we dont know. We do not yet have prototypes in our hands. We will probably stay around the same price point for now, but if volume increases, we can lower price a bit to reflect the savings we would gain.

So what if you want to get a hold of one of these awesome new boards? Well, post here. Then once we get a pre-order page available on our website, we will post a link in this post and you can place your pre-order. We have decided that all pre-orders will receive beta testing price breaks. Once we place our beta order, the price will go back up to normal. Our plan is to order 10 boards, 8 for public beta testing.

If you want to be one of the lucky 8 then post here and send an email to [email protected]. When you pre-order, we will let you know what note to put in the checkout area. If you would rather wait for a final version of the V6, you are welcome to order now and receive the 20% discount. This will help us fund all the setup costs of a new prodution run while giving you a discount for being an early supporter.

The new boards sink between each analog input? Will there be a new version of the software? Will it be compatible with XP?

Yes. The shared sample capicitor will be fully discharged to ground between each sample.

Yes, but MDX will be compatible with FBv6 too. The new software still has a ways to go.

Yes. MDX will support it. You will have to ask Sonic about support for RRFusion and CentrFusion, but I will try the best I can to support him to ensure their compatibility.

Same read/write procedures? Will the newer driver also support v4/v3 brains?

I can't say for certain, but it should be similar if not the same. You never know what testing will bring.

The driver will remain unchanged as a generic USB device. The DLLs to talk with it will remain compatible. MDX is capable of talking with Version 2, 3, and 4 and soon 6 using the same low level DLL.

V4 is available now. V5 died on my bench. V6 is being sent out for prototyping within the week.

We do still have some spots open for beta testers. And if we get more interest we may be able to extend the initial run by a couple.

Okay the pre-order says the price is $50 but the initial post says the price is not yet determined... which price is official?

You say the USB driver has not changed, however the number of outputs has changed... is this the only part of the communication that has changed? Linux support is critical for me.

Are the relay stability issues fixed? v4 was hit or miss.

Will it use the same connectors for sensors and relays that v4 used?

If these are all yeses, count me in.
