  • eyeR Interceptor: Signal Intercepting Tutorial. For relays, switches etc.

The eyeR Interceptor was initially designed to be be signal interceptor for intercepting signal via an IR remote, hence the name eyeR (IR) Interceptor.

Here I will show you a simple example of how to use the eyeR inputs and outputs as signal interceptors.

The picture below shows a block diagram of how power window switches make windows go up and down in automotive vehicles.

As you can see, the switches send signals to the "power window control module" and then it decides how to control the window motor. All the "smarts" are contained in the
control module that decide thing like when the motor has fully opened/closed the window etc.

How do we Intercept the signals?.
This is done simply cutting the switch wire and connect the switch side to an eyeR input and the control module side to the output as shown below.

By default the eyeR is set to input/output intercept mode, so no setup/programming is required.

In the above setup (with the eyeR powered up) pressing the window up switch will still put the window up, and pressing the down switch will still bring the window down. So you have probably
guessed that at this point that the eyeR is just as about as useful as a link of wire!!

Well, this is kind of true in this instance, but.... if you now enter a command (via PC) to force the window up say ">DD 1XXXXXXXXXX" (refer to manual here for commands) you will
now see that you are able to control the window controls via a PC without needing to press the manual switches. If this isnt enough, the IR remote can also control the window controls. At the same
time all this is happening the eyeR is reporting all the changes that have occurred at the inputs and outputs to the PC . Now with this data coming out of the eyeR you can now use it
to display diagnostic indicators or create events depending on the inputs and outputs.
