just wondering if anybody has ever done/ or attempted to put a carpc in the solstice. the only space i could see for it would be ripping out the entire stock head unit.

is ripping out the head unit and completely replacing it with a screan a wise idea?

If there isn't problem with replace a stock HU for an aftermarket HU, I don't see problem with replace the stock HU with a carPC. Well, you do need to find a way to amplify the sound from carPC to speaker. Can be done with stock/aftermarket HU and/or with amplifier.

Post a pic if you don't want to rip out the stock HU. I'm sure someone can find a spot for a screen.

Otherwise, some relocate the stock HU to the glovebox or somewhere out of the way if it has the ability to have an aux input, through a PIE adapter or not (thus listening to the radio through the HU). Or, like Matrix said, you can just buy an aftermarket HU.

Others completely rip it out and use the PC to run radio, hook it up to an amp (usually pretty expensive), and wire the speakers through the amp.

Removing the stock HU isn't a bad idea, especially if replacing it with something more high-tech
