      As long as they stay away from vital vehicle components (brakes, transmition, ignition etc) they can built something that crashes a million times a day. My take on the entire story is that our current GUI options (including mouse, touch screen, usb this and bluetooth that) isn't made for vehicles.

      Why? Because the set of requirments behind these technologies didn't take vehicles into consideration when they were developed.

      There is an entire different set of requirements that needs to be developed first for car computers. So I hope they are looking at the requirements first instead of "cool" gadgets to sell sell sell. Otherwise if they don't establish requirements first they are going to end up with windows again !

        just like the Prius has its computer that can be interfaced through a proprietary rs232 port, Toyota is making one that is like a CarPC but with the big button mass market in mind as they usually do.

        And AutoXP as it used to be called (not sure of its new fancy name) should address those problems above... or a frontend as a shell.

          microsoft is developing one in coordination with Ford...i think thats the one formerly known as AutoXP...not sure...
