  • Modified Windows Installation

    Here's my situation:

I bought a 1GB IDE Flash module to install my OS on for my soon-to-be upgraded CarPC. I made an nLite version of windows and I have tried to install it on the drive but it says it requires 1.2GB of space for the system.

My first question: This size doesn't seem right--I reduced its size quite a bit, so I am assuming that this is a fixed regulation put in by windows so as to always come up when installing windows, which they assume to be the full version of XP. Am I correct in thinking this? Or is this the actual size of my modified system?

The other question I have: Is there a way to install the OS on this drive without going through the typical bluescreen windows setup, or can I install it on my other PC that has some free IDE ports through the OS on that computer? I'm unsure if it makes it computer-specific when installing the OS, or if I can install it on one PC and move it to another.

    Thanks for any help!

do a google for "tiny xp" its been cut down to about 100 meg... works fine....no ie etc...pm me if you cant find it..there are ways to install from a usb key. again google for it. as for moving an install to another system an xp install wont boot on another system unless its the same type. i.e same hardware.

If the above doesn't work, hookup a full size hard drive, install the OS. Then ghost it onto CDs and then back onto the CF.

But getting a pre-made smaller OS (TinyXP/etc) is easier.
