  • Newb here, plus a little on what I'm doin'..

Heya.. Thought I'd say hi.. found this site browsing.. didn't realize that there were this many peeps hooking up pc's into cars..

I haven't built my setup yet.. still in the planning stages, but I do have the most crucial piece of hardware sitting in a box right here

It's a 15" touchscreen.. Kristel LCD15-011.. pretty sweet, all the touch hardware is built in.. Got it for free when a friend of mine cleared out his warehouse.. I did have two, but I sold one for a good price

Plans call for a 1.5ghz/500megs RAM system running an on possibly Win2k (but more likely a 9x) w/ a customized shell I'm in the process of coding. Gonna use a slot load DVD-ROM, and 3 of the biggest drives I can afford (probably 120giggers..

Gonna have all the usual toys, plus some others.. MP3, Video, GPS NAV, full blown internet access (sometime next year, wireless broadband.. I work for a wireless carrier, so it's not gonna cost me squat ), custom keyboard for when you HAVE to type, engine computer management, etc..

I'm lucky in the sense that it's all going into an 88 Caprice Wagon.. the car itself is being severely worked on motor/drivetrain/suspension wise, and the interior is being COMPLETELY redone.. new seats, carpet, custom dash/center console, etc.. so I've got a lot of options as to how I do things.. One thing I'm probably going to HAVE to do is mount the screen in portrait mode.. but I've got it all figured out and apart from that it should all go in without a hitch.

the only problem is, since I'm essentially completely gutting and rebuilding the car, I can't dedicate all the time and resources I'd like to the carpc.. and realistically, I can't really work on the interior until I've had the roof chopped.. but I can still build the dash/console seperately and I should pics of those completed in a month or two..

    Damn, this got long LOL..

Anyways, I look forward to hangin' out here, and you can bet on me askin' a bunch of questions in the future (and hopefully, be able to answer a bunch too..)

Most of us just go in through a door . . .

oh you will .. gonna show that thing off when I'm done like there's no tomorrow

I'm building the car to join the 200mph club at Bonneville Salt Flats, but it's also going to be my daily driver (or one of.. depends how well the job goes ), and as such is going to have full creature comforts..

Not the ideal car to be doing that with, but in terms of interior room, you can't ask for much better short of a bus

Welcome, another canadian here now! Theres a few more around, but its always good to have more.

Those are quite the specs for the system, should be quite fast enough.
