Anyone know where I can get Wind Tunnel software? I need one where I can plug in a 3d model from Autocad and see what the wind/turbulance effects are at sub-sonic speeds (i.e... 0-~200mph)

The stuff I HAVE found is in the $15k range, or companies charging an arm and a leg to use your model in their proprietary software..

Anyways.. this is sort've carpc related.. the carpc is going into this car

Hehe.. I can see it now.. world's first 200mph full multimedia entertainment vehicle

Something scares me about a 1988 Caprice moving at 200mph...

Remind me whenever you leave the house - I'll have to pull off the road

What should scare you would be if I just blindly said that the car's gonna do 200mph.. but I mean christ.. how many people you know want to to wind tunnel testing on their cars to make sure they're safe?

you got the Olds 307 in there?

That's what's in mine right now as it awaits the "transplant"..

As a testament to detroit engineering though, this car has 350,000km on both original motor, and original tranny.. (that's ~220k miles for you wierd-measurement types )

It is, however, showing it's wear and tear LOL.. I wouldn't be suprised if it dyno'd at something like 70-80hp.. body and interior are MINT though.. not that I care about the interior, it's ALL getting gutted

I'm certainly no expert in this field but I feel confident in saying that no, it would not be safe at 200 mph. But what car is safe at even half that speed. I guess it all depends on your perception of safe.

as it sits, it's DEFINATELY not safe..

In order to attain that speed safely (right now estimates point at the car starting to lift dangerously at about 150-160mph, and if I can miraculously keep accelerating, it WILL go airborne at about 180..) I need to do some serious modifications to the body.. I need a front lip and a rear wing to provide necessary downforce.. at this point we're looking at reverse aerofoils for the front to keep the steering in check, and either an aerofoil or a monster wing on the back..

The main problem is that because it's a wagon, there's going to be a huge vaccuum at the rear of the car at those speeds.. I need to find a way to smooth out that air flow to reduce that vaccuum as much as possible..

Hence my need for wind tunnel software

brakes? bah.. brakes are for wussies.. I'll have a hole in the floor where I can drop down my foot and slow the car that way..

Seriously though, the entire car is getting rebuilt.. drivetrain, suspension, brakes, body, interior.. you name it, it's getting improved.. like I've said, the only thing it'll have in common with a regular caprice wagon is the sheetmetal

Yep its got the olds 307, mines pretty near mint mint inside everything works, engine looks like it rolled off the plant floor!
Ouside no rust,no paint fade, dings or scratches.

Its pretty gutless,I would say upgrade the suspension, lowering it thats the key. 100mph+ that thing might get alittle shaky. If you dont do the following.

Make a website,I like looking at wagons!
