  • program for generating wiring diagrams?!

alright. I've been scouring the internet for a couple days. all the car forums I frequent (and many, like this one, that I don't). download.com searches, google searches, etc. etc. and I cannot find what I'm looking for. So, time to ask, and I figure if someone out there has found a way to do it, they'll be here!

I'm looking for a program to create and modify wiring diagrams. would be perfect for many CarPC projects, although the project I'm working on now is a standalone engine management system. I'm building a pretty custom setup, and need to plan out exactly how many wires will actually be running to the engine, etc.

I've found a few programs, but none that are designed for automotive applications, so they just don't have what I need, and are either too simple, or too complex.

the most important function I need, is to be able to take a component (even if I have to manually draw the image for it) and move it and have the wires attached to it move with it. this way I can arrange things as I need them, and keep track of what wires will be run where.

anyway, sorry for the fairly long post, but this has been pretty frustrating. and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. anything from a link to a free program that will do everything I want, to suggestions on other kinds of programs that could be made to work, to suggestions on what to search for (as always, I find all the search engines and such are only as powerful as the bloke using them......somehow I always seem to come up short) would be greatly appreciated, as I've completely run out of ideas!

as an example, I've attached a snippet of a subaru engine wiring diagram containing pretty much everything I'd need. ground, diode, relay, and motor/pump emblems. and just blank, generic sensor/solenoid boxes (there will be lots of these, sensors, injectors, etc. no need for specific emblems).

and, since this is a long-winded post anyway, for those that might be interested. it'll be a Link LEM v4 ECU and Zeitronix wideband 02 controlling a subaru EJ22e engine.

I do believe Open Office has an "equivalent" program to Visio if someone needs a free program. OpenOffice Draw. There is another one, Dia, but I think that is another version of OODraw.

I found TinyCAD circuit diagram creator to be very useful.
