NO!!!! GOD NO!!!!!!! YOU DON"T UNDERSTAND!!!!! NOOO!!!!!!!!!!

I was quite active in the PC Case modding scene back when it was still "underground". There were a few sites relevant to the subject (like this site to this subject). About 2 years ago TheScreenSavers had a friend of mine (echo) on the show, talking about some uber modded cases. He had nice paint jobs, the original LED fans (which consisted of actually ripping a fan apart, wiring, soldering, drilling and such.), the dremel-made case panel windows, the cold cathodes that were flatbed scanner bulbs with theatre lighting color filters wrapped around them, etc.
This happened and look now. ****in' Compaqs are coming with windows and lights.
This is the usual outcome of "publicity" as you call it. If we get publicity, we will no longer be original, we will be just like any other person driving a car.

sorry for the rant, but NO!

I've been watching Car Week, and overall it's been tolerable. Like anything else on a TV show, you can only barely scratch the surface. They've already mentioned the RX-7 Forum, and so far the rice content has been zero, so I am happy.

Tonight is "Hack Your Honda", so no doubt after the show will be receiving an email from me...

Car: 1986 Mazda RX-7 Turbo (highly modded), 1978 RX-7 Beater (Dead, parting out), 2001 Honda Insight
"If one more body-kitted, cut-spring-lowered, farty-exhausted Civic revs on me at an intersection, I swear I'm going to get out of my car and cram their ridiculous double-decker aluminium wing firmly up their rump."

By the time they had echo and cold dog and company on the show, case modding was pretty common among computer enthusiasts at that point (the basic paint your case window your case cathode your case mods) thanks to places like pcmod and the like.

Yes, the hobby was somewhat popular within a small group of people (like this site...), but when they were featured on the show, that was the turning point. After that you could get cases with windows from the factory, PC stores started carrying cases with neons already in them, they became just ordinary stuff... "wow, you have a window and a neon... just like everybody else"

I just don't want this hoby to turn out like the case moding scene did.
