  • using cd to boot norton ghost?

at work, i am trying to find a way to get rid of floppies-- currently, we use norton ghost(not sure of the version) to load multiple computers at the same time from saved images. we will boot the client pc's using a set of 2 floppies, one with the mouse, and lan driver on it, and another one with ghost.exe on it, and will then load the image over a internal, dedicated network.

the problem with this is that the floppies go bad very easily, and are starting to get harder to find, so i am trying to find some software that would would send the ghost images, and would boot the client computer from a cd..

    any suggestions?

i already tried copying the files from the pair of floppies to a bootable cd using nero 6, but the current software doesn't support cd drive usage...

    thanks.

Here is a zipped ISO of my Ghost boot CD minus the ghost.exe

Just unzip and edit with ISO program

For networking, multicasting you will need to insert the files from your discs into the ISO image. There are quite a few ISO manipulaton programs out there.

If this is something you'll do frequently or on a lot of computers check out ghostcast server. It runs on a central computer (server) and then you can set the clients to do a network boot (pxe). This way you can re-image several computers at once (or just one if you choose) and won't need a floppy/cd, etc.

This is how we do it at my office. I can knock out a dozen computers in 20 minutes.

sorry, i guess i forgot to mention it-- i am using a ghostcast server(though i don't remember the model), but the issue is that i need to load the remote computers with floppies to load a 'ghost' OS onto the computers to image them.

i guess i am just wondering if there is any alternative imaging programs, or a newer version of ghost that does support cd booting...

I used to use Ghost, Ghost boot floppies and Ghostcast server to push images to PCs at work. It was always a struggle to get the correct drivers incorporated into the Ghost boot floppies for new PC models. Then I found BartPE -- a Windows XP boot CD which replaced DOS boot floppies forever. Now UBCD4win (the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows) has made life even simpler. UBCD4Win is built upon BartPE and has "DriverPacks" incorporated for nearly every piece of hardware in existence. It has free utilites and applications for a myriad of purposes. I built a customized version with Ghost (enterprise version) incorporated. I can boot nearly any PC with it, map a drive letter to my networked file server with saved ghost images on it, run Ghost, then pull the image to the PC. Works great.

we have ghot and ghost cast setup at work, we are using the latest version

            symantec ghost solution suite 2.5

we can create bootable floopies, USB sticks and CD's from a program included called something like Boot disk works very well also has all the drivers included, i suggest upgrading to the latest version.
