  • Better name than car computing for car computing?

So i keep talking about what mp3Car is and people get very confused and assume that we are dealing with the car's computer.

We are kicking around terms over here and just wondering what you guys think is a clear word or phrase for the purpose of this community.

We have sort of tentatively settled on in-vehicle infotainment...but, there must be something better.

            Brainstorming here:

Acquired AutoMobile Media Center, Navigation and Control

            AutoMobile Entertainment via Personal Computer.

            AutoMobile Information and Entertainment PC.

Automobile Information, entertainment and control via acquired Personal Computer (a.k.a. AutoPC studies)

            Added Automobile PC. (simples)

Acquired Automobile PC. (is it a syndrome?)

            Added integrated Automobile PC.

            Modded in-car PCs.

Anything but "infotainment""...I hate that word.

carPC. I think is an awesome term and perfectly describes what it is.

                It's putting a PC into a car ;-)

Shouldn't be confusing because a car does not have a Personal Computer.

Otherwise you have to go to long names like Integrated Mobile Computing Solution (mo-co-so! trademarked... dang)

I too like carPC & carputer.

Maybe caputer is more appropriate??? (LOL!)

And I also like InCar or in-car as a descriptor (though that name is/was used for car audio).
MobilePC or MobPC, but mobos & countries that don't use "cells" killed those.

Carpc and carputer are relatively known search words on eBay.
Infotainment - just doesn't seem to be right. We building units to watch info-comercials too?

iCar is going to work since most people will assume you are listening to iTunes on your iPad which is connected to the net ... Errr cloud.

I think carpc and carputer are not too descriptive, and I think that is what was asked in the OP? Something somewhat descriptive?

You say carputer and people may think you misspoken "computer", or you have some sort of thick accent.

I just normally say, "I put a car with a monitor into my car" and most people understand.

I do agree that "car computing" doesn't make much sense either since if the above holds true then carcomputing sounds like car commuting or just "commute by car".

The word compute really no longer computes as it used to

I do have a funny feeling that the iPad is going to make a huge impact here than just in the iPad forums which seems to have a hollywar going on about the basic change in the universe that is occurring or going to occur so why not just look forward and try to accept that iPad / slate users are going to change this industry and thereby come up with a term that will allow them to feel accepted. Or just face the fact that even if a term comes up here the padders will just come up with their own term and we'll have to live with what they have chosen.

mobile pc sounds like a smart phone

                          hmmm, dorky but inDashpc ???

I think that most folks can grasp the fact that a pc in a car is not the actual car's computer which they probably have no idea that even exists

                              I like Delta's MC˛.

Could we make it 12MC˛ for 12V MC˛?
I just wanna see how many say we need a slash.....
