  • QNX Carputer based on free QNX hobbyist license

QNX demoed some slick new apps at CES, such as a touchscreen infotainment system that integrates with a digital instrument cluster:

After seeing this I couldn't help but wonder why no CarPCs run on this platform. It's the framework used by many OEMs. It's got (among other things) well-regarded audio DSP libraries for echo cancellation and handsfree apps. QNX has a hefty license fee BUT, after digging around their site, it seems they offer a free perpetual license for non-commercial use:

Seems like an open-source QNX CarPC would be a good project. Anyone QNX devs here? Does this sound like a realistic project?? I would be interested in contributing...

I posted a similar question after seeing what they did with a jeep JK at the recent Telematics Detroit conference. The integration into the instrument cluster is amazing.. but even just using a playbook for the infotainment system works really well and is something I would love to have for my car.
