  • Best car for CarPC instalation?

    Hey

Im looking at several cars (first time, and used) to get. This car will have a CarPC installed in it so Im looking at cars that are very easy to install a CarPC with a display (making sure the work to change is minimum in effort, cost, and time) and with features (such as OBD).

    Im looking at these:

    SAAB 9-3 2.2TiD 04 (6.500)
    FORD Mondeo 2.0 Tdci Ghia 03 (2.999)
    CITROEN C5 2.0 HDI SX 02 (5.300)
    SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDI Active -06 (4.800)
    HYUNDAI Elantra 2.0 Gls Crdi 03 (2.500)
    VOLKSWAGEN Passat 1.9 TDi 130CV Trendline -01 (4.300)
    TOYOTA Avensis 2.0D4D Linea Luna -00 (3.990)
    OPEL Vectra 2.2 Dci 125 Cv 03 (3.900)

Pretty much these are my options available. I like the rearend of these but Im finding on some models pretty difficult to be able to install a display and maintain all the functions (such as the A/C controller)

    Which do you guys recommend?

    Thank you

        everything has a perspective.

are the screens as good or better then what the current batch of $200 tablets come with? no. can they be as good with enough money? i think so.

i ended up paying about $500 for a converted capacitive-touch transflective lilliput 669. i've been very happy with it. it's sensitive, sunlight readable in my convertible, and it fits in my dash, so i didn't need to do any fab work to make it fit. many people might say that it wasn't worth it compared to those pre-built tablets, but i think it was-- the entire reason for my carpc was to do things that a tablet can't do because of a lack of input/output options, so i essentially priced myself out of that option.

there just isn't a really strong market for carpc hardware-- we're a small niche of hobbyist's, and as long as that title still applies, there is no way to get the cool hardware that the tablets use without expecting to pay more..

it's all about the market, and in the carpc market, everyone wants a bmw screen for a honda price, but honda's the only one selling screens in that market.....

I had a VW passat and it has space for double din , also in the trunk there are compartments at the side I used to install my pc behind , only drawback was long cables to the front

Im completly not intrested in a tablet. The only tablet I would be intrested in is a Surface Pro but I believe I can do better with cheaper

Ive been recommended the Passat as well and I see that it has double din Do you have pictures of your installation? I would love to do something similar and I like the Passat a lot (I like huge cars)

Well long cables only has the drawback when there are technical limitations (such as USB's 5 meter cable length). I dont care much if its "messy" (as long as people can get in and out without tripping over wires)

              Seriously?

You want to buy a based on how good it is to install a PC?

You can choose a car for many reasons, but for ease of CarPC install is not be a major one of them.

Buy a car for How it drives, how it looks, how comfortable it is, how reliable it is, how it can handle the things in life you need it to do.

Honestly, the car isn't going to make any difference as far as ease of installation.
The only exception is a double-DIN opening in the dash, and that is for ease of screen fitment, but nothing else.

If that's the case, then fashion a car out of a cardboard box.
That's probably going to make for the easiest installation, although I doubt it would do well in any crash testing.

You start making random generalizations, and you'll get random replies.

If you have that kind of disposable income that you can base your car buying decision off how easy it is to install a carpc, you should search the worklogs section and see whichever looks easiest. Since most people won't be able to relate to your reasoning, you're not likely to get a decently usable response for the asking.

one of my primary driving forces behind my vehicle purchases is how easy the sound system can be changed--which includes how the radio area accepts different devices, and where the speakers are positioned.. speed and handling are very low priorities to me.
