  • Speed limit display

Is there a way for a car pc to tell me what the speed limit is? I have seen this feature on some newer GPS Systems, and even a few head units.

From what I have read it seems like it can be done two ways. The speed limit information can be pulled from a database stored on the device, however this requires a map with that all that data included in it. The other option is something I haven't been able to find any solid info on, but apparently Vauxhall is developing technology that uses a camera on the front of the car that recognizes speed limit signs and displays an image of the last seen speed limit sign on the dash.

    Any thoughts?

Camera based traffic sign recognition is used in BMW's and AUDI's already.

For car pc's somebody need to program something with the OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision) library

Here is some demostration on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU7yHQkg-7U

Yep, here is a program that is supposed to recognize road signs (haven't had time to play around with it).
