  • Carputer almost done! Pictures..

    Almost done my little project...

Details: 1983 BMW 320i, 284,000 miles ...Toshiba Laptop - 450mhz (I think), 128mb Ram, Onboard sound, Generic PCMCIA Nic, Touchpad, 12.1" LCD... using an inline FM Modulator with an on/off switch to gio between regular radio and modulation. Actually sounds very decent.

Keep in mind I'm going to the upholstery shop to get balck vinyl to match the interior of the car .. so the wood will be covered and all edges will look smooth...

    From the front..

Left side... the small gap at the bottom will have a small panel in front of it.

Right side... again, there will be a small panel to cover the gap. This one will house the cig.lighter and possibly the NIC cable.

See, I matched my WinAmp skin and my headunit!

This panel will have the power button (big red guy) and the FM Modulator switch run up underneath and poking through. The whole thing will be covered in black matching vinyl. The touchpad will also be mounted down.

I really wanted to add a cup holder, but don't know where I'll have room. When I get my vinyl I think it'll clean the appearance up a whole lot. I'm actually pretty excited. I'm still waiting on my dc-dc laptop power supply adapter to come in the mail ... any day now...

    Questions and comments are welcome..

Oh it's perfect. It was a little bright when I took the photos .. so maybe it made the pics look dark .. whatever sense that makes...

Are you using the "foil trick"? (Putting aluminum foil on the back of your lcd) If not, you might want to, should improve brightness a little (if you want to up it a little bit that is...your call, tho..) It's talked about briefly in this thread: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...highlight=foil

        just a thought.

I am using foil on the signal lines .. but so that's so that it can shield the signal in each line from the other lines. I think the screen is bright enough .. and looks awesome at night... I'll get some pics soon .. the connection for the lcd is acting up right now, so I'm not gettin any video .. have to fix this one next...

I'm gonna end this thread and start a new one tomorrow. I have finished the console and I think people are more interested in a "system done!" thread then an "almost done" one... it looks kick ***!
