    Anyone seen this?

    It seems to make out that it's some special revolutionary product, and some of the claims made aren't strickly true.

    The kit they sell though just looks like most people's average setup or planned setup though...

    'Retail' on the site is 1750,

    Same/similar PC kit from Mini-ITX.com ...
    519 assuming Epia MII, same case, 512MB, 40GB 2.5HDD, Wlan, XP Home license DVD drvie etc
    +100 for GPS mouse
    +20 for USB KB
    +220 for lilliput touchscreen
    +20 for Opus 90W
    +50 for custom volume control (i.e. custom built + profit margin)
    +250 for something like Navigator/MapPoint
    ==1179
    Those are all retail prices, so even with an extra 5% for the hell of it...
    ==1238
    and add 50 for the trouble of building it, and that's still 400 over the odds!!!

    so guessing that the retail prices I've put down all have 20% on top (as well as the VAT), thats a profit of over 800 per system!

                I seriously wonder in what kind of excellent car you have installed your homegrown carputer, you selfmade man?

                    what a shame - if that site takes off our little hobby will become a bit pointless when you can pick one off shelf

                      It already can be picked off a shelf.
                      The hobby will never become pointless. That is the beauty of it. There are so many things that can be done and changed, that playing about wtih the PC itself is only a part of the deal.

                          I just wish the company would have at least implemented something original (not including the software in this statement) Most of us have the exact same or very similar setup... I would have at least made a custom case!

                            No, It's not my new boss, I have setup my small company (SL-Tech) as secondary activity especially for this and I always work for my existing boss.

                            We have signed an OEM contract that authorize Karputer to use and sell Mediacar with her products.

                            For the other poitns of this thread I would let react Karputer

                              Anybody know what they are using for FM? It says it has a radio and there is a radio button on the MediaCar skin. Did they find a bunch of D-Links or is there another tuner supported by MediaCar?
