  • Just discovered something cool about winamp

In the Media Library, one of the online media options is "AOL radio with XM"
Now XM and Sirius are US only broadcasting.

But through online streaming and Winamp, people in the UK/Europe can get hold of XM now.
If you have a 3G mobile as a modem (and have a deep wallet or good free data allowance), or a good wifi network connection where you drive, there is nothing to stop you streaming XM into your car.

Not perfect but if someone could code an AOL radio plugin into some of the frontends, could be cool.

Oh cool - I've never messed with that before....
And if you have a REALLY fast connection, you can watch tons of music videos!

Yep. I know it isn't immediatley of value to all MP3 car users, but, if you get a fast wifi or 3G data connection, it means XM without extra hardware, and XM were it might not normally be available.
You won't normally hear me say this very often, but "AOL, thank you".

I'm assuming you have to be an AOL subscriber?

There are a couple threads that discuss online radio. And Guino has updated RR to display artist and song info from the internet feeds. I just came home from a 6 hour road trip where I listened to internet radio exclusively and it was great. I only had one short 3 min break in the cell connection and played up to 128K feeds reasonably well. There are so much more radio stations available for every mood/taste that I may have to drop my XM subscription - XM just can't compete when I can get 20 different reggae stations from winamp directly.

To get access to those from RR is it just a matter of making a playlist in Winamp w/ the feeds you want?
