  • How to Auto turn on an Inverter?

    Hi folks,

I'm stumped on how to automate turning on my inverter that has a button you must hold for 2-3 seconds for it to power on. It's a flat button on top of the Xantrex Xpower-400 and I figure there must be some kind of electronic gizmo or circuit out there that would be powered with ignition key and in turn "press" the button.

    Any ideas?

    thanks in advance!

If you're knowledgable on electronics and don't mind taking that inverter apart, you can try using a circuit like this: to convert the switched 12v in your car to a 'momentary' press. That 'momentary' time can be extended by trying different resistor / capacitor combinations.

    ( From here: http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp )

In that diagram you would connect one side of the internal switch to pin 87 (shown as fused 12v) and the other to pin 30 (shown as momentary 12v). I have this setup with my monitor and it works great.

I had the same issue. I had to manualy turn the inverter on/ off.. $60 at Circuit City took care of the problem.
