You can do some fun things with mappoint , it can be embeded within your visual basic app. The max update rate (for gps) is too slow , I just wrote my own handler.

IMHO CoPilot is the best and you can pick it up at most computer stores

I see that the original Poster is in the US, so Co-Pilot is fine, but unfortunatly it doesn't cover Europe.

For that Mappoint with AGPS is a clunky, but workable solution, Maybe better is Destinator for PC, or Infomap Navigator

Just thought I'd mention this about Mappoint 2001 at least.

I just got back from going to Colorado to do some 4 wheelin' in the jeep and well one of the routes was Silverton to Buena Vista and Mappoint decided to plan the route across a 4x4 only jeep trail that goes up through the mountains via tricky and rocky switch backs, so I'm not too confident in the route planning of that software any more

just an fyi, watch out for the routes it wants you to take!

That AGPS thing is awesome... But it doesn't work for S&T

Does anyone know of anything comparible with S&T? Or anything that works similar but works in Canada?

Can't help with Canada I'm afraid. But as a registered user, i can confirm that Mappoint comes alive with AGPS.

Only been tested static on my dining table, and once with my laptop in the car through the lappy speakers, it works really well. Even on close short distances with loads of turns.

It ain't perfect, but it won't be till we can get the Japanese standard of 3d stuff.

Well I'm going to have to get my hands on a copy of mappoint then and try it... Streets and Trips is the only other one that works for Canada unfortunately... Strange how so many companies seem to think nothing exists north of the 49th...

MapPoint 2002 is for North America, not just USA. There's tons of streets and POIs in Montreal (Just the city i checked). If you want any more information verified just let me know.

I'm pretty sure that I said "is the only other one that works with Canada", meaning I already know that it'll work up here I'm referring to (pretty much) all other GPS software (CoPilot, Street Atlas, etc)... S&T/MapPoint seem to be the only software that works in Canada (and they're related), which is where my beef comes in. Oh well, I'm used to it by now

Yeah.. I tried AGPS and Mappoint 2002, it is so cool. I purposely made a wrong turn, it recalculate the new route and get me back on track. This program would be so good if Mappoint is more accurate with the street. But for what it worth and the choice we have in Canada it not too bad.
