  • Sure GPS board + Android + USB OTG? ( SKG16B )

    So I got the Sure GPS developmental board, model# SKG16B.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/SKG16B-Bluet...-/230844194302

    But I can't seem to get it to be recognized in either of my two Android devices.
    Both are Samsung Galaxy, one is KitKat 4.4.4 and the other is Lollipop 5.1.
    I don't get the SNEA feedback when using any of the USB GPS apps except for one that seemed to connect over Bluetooth (before crashing 30 seconds later) but said it had built in drivers in the app. But it did not work over USB OTG.

    Is this board working for anyone else?
    I found one thread where a guy was talking about it but he was talking high level Linux coding stuff so it was a bit over my head.

    I root, ROM and even write a few scripts and have compiled a kernel or two but I'm no coder unfortunately.

    The units work fine but maybe another user that has used them for a large project will chime in. I don't know of anyone that has tried them with Android but I know it works with Windows for sure.

    May I ask why you are trying to use one of these boards when all of the Samsung Tablets or phones I know of come with GPS onboard? (Although not sure if it works right if you are off network... I was over middle of lake michigan on a boat and it did not show where we were until we were back on land... )

      I want external GPS because the tablet will be buried in the dash.
      I'd like to have the GPS antenna on my roof to maximize signal reception.
      My car's roof has a built-in sharkfin GPS antenna on the top.

        I am so geeking out on this whole in-dash tablet scenario.
        For anyone else reading this thread, here is a great USB OTG hub for Galaxy android tablets:

            It seems the Sure GPS works with the Bluetooth apps which appear to have its driver built-into the app.

            But none of the USB apps can connect to the Sure via the USB OTG.
            My GlobalSat BU-353 does work fine over USB. But I prefer to use the Sure if possible.

            Does anyone have the Sure working over USB in Android?
            I've tried 4.4.X and 5.X.X so far.

              Sure USB GPS Demo board works great via USB in Odroid XU4 device running KitKat 4.4.4 after a minor adjustment to build.prop.
              This is not using USB-OTG btw. The XU4 has a USB 3.0 built into it. And my GPS is plugged into a seven port USB 3.0 powered hub.

              Change from:

              ro.kernel.android.gps=ttyACM0

              Change to:

              ro.kernel.android.gps=ttyUSB0
