  • CoPilot in Europe Update.

I know it is only for the Pocket PC version, there is a european version of CoPilot all it would take is for their target audience to say "Oi, give me some of that on my Laptop mate", and I think eventually they would have to give in.

Are the maps not compatible? Could you not buy CoPilot US software, and CoPilot EU maps for Pocket PC and use them? I know Destinator uses the same maps for pocket/laptop.

Expensive, but a thought...However if they do work, why don't they sell them for laptop!!!

Hmm, never thought of that. I've mailed them. I wonder if they will suggest buying the US model, and then buying the uk/Europe maps as an upgrade?

I asked them if they would be doing a PC version for the EU - they said no how ever they may consider it. This seems to be a growing market now so I think the thing to do is look around...

Basically that is what I told them.
That I was personally happy with Mappoint and aGPS, but American members of this Forum are always raving about how superior CoPilot is, and how it blows Mappoint out of the water for routing and navigation on a Laptop, or built in CarPC.

And how people in Europe should get a chance to try it.

Honestly its just OK. There are definately still a few issues with the program which I hope are resolved in the next release. Mainly the TTS Voice engine is pretty harsh, along with some things with the interface. Best thing out that for the PC right now though...

I think, even with faults, if it is the best thing, and they have a version available for handheld CE machines, they should make it available for x86 too.

Don't see why they can't especially if they keep the map file the same it will just read it in, and plot your position from the lat/long just like anywhere else.

Why dont you just get Destinator if your prepared to pay the $300-odd that CoPilot costs? The voice directions in CoPilot sound awful IMO.

Well, ATM I'm planning on sticking with Mappoint and aGPS, but if I could find a worldwide universal package with Co-Pilot like features then I would use it.

I downloaded the Destinator SDK, and wasn't to happy with the Demo version. OK, but not great. I actually found I prefered Mappoint.

fair play, we all have our preferences. Im just not clear on what you expect to see in CoPilot that is different and/or better than what Destinator offers. I think if there ever is a UK version you may be dissappointed.

Probably right. Just seems such a popular package, would be a shame to not be able to try it over here.

Co-Pilot Laptop 7 includes Maps of Europe

I just received my Co-Pilot upgrade today(Co-Pilot Live Laptop 7) and it includes a data disc which is labeled "Maps of Europe". I don't know the details but you have to contact TravRoute for the unlock code to use the disk (AKA Mo $$$$$). Looks like you guys will get to experience a good GPS program after all. I tried to install my upgrade on my laptop tonight but couldn't get my network card to work so I can't tell you anymore. It does give you the option of installing American or European English during the initial install.

Check this link out for the details :

Hi there 10-75 - So, what do you think? Any cool features to report? I'm considering buying it, especially now that I hear it has some cool 2-way stuff like the ability to broadcast your position. (I'm happy to see that it's come "down" to $250 too.)

                          Cheers,

                          Taylor

                            Taylor,

The only new features I know of are the two way feature, improved interface, the voice recognition I think is supposed to be better, and the database is supposed to be improved and IT DOES INCLUDE EUROPE as well although I'm from the states so I won't be able nor have the reason to try that part out. The last version was very good IMHO (I've had this pgm since Ver 1.0) so I doubt that this version will be a disappointment.... I'm curious to here what you guy's from Europe think about it compared to Desinator etc.....I'll let you know when I get mine running... Bill

Sounds like we migh tbe in with an option then. I unfortunatley won't be able to afford to be a guineapig, but, if someone aq little more weathly gives it the thumbs up, I certainly would be willing to go with it.
