NavMan, USB. Instant lock (due to custom power setup i made) otherwise it would take 2-3 minutes to lock.

Garmin GPS35 with Copilot 7 live. The GPS is locked long before my computer ever finishes booting, so it appears instant.

i have copilot 7 with the copilot "hockey puck" receiver. it usually takes me a minute or so after the computer boots to get a lock. is there anything i can do to get a faster lock or should i just spring for a new receiver?

Keep your GPS switched on...they do consume about 100mA though.

                      EDIT :

Im using Garmin GPS16, might upgrade to GPS16A soon

                      GPS16 :
                      Reacquisition: Less than 2 seconds
                      Warm: Approximately 15 seconds
                      Cold: Approximately 45 seconds
                      AutoLocateŽ: 5 minutes
                      SkySearch: 5 minutes

Go for a new recever. The hockypuck recevers stink. You'll be much happier with a Garmin GPS 35 or 16.

I've got a Sapphire USB, very quick to lock, quite attractive too if you need to have it on the dash

The Garmin GPS16 is what I wanted to get, but I couldn't justify its cost to myself, so I've got the usb earthmate. It's into a powered usb hub, and locks before I get into SA.
