Correct me if I am wrong but I think with NaviVoice you can replace the IGuidance voice files with SAPI 5 voice files.

FOr some of them it would be badass. I wouldn't mind hearing myself say "You fukcin idiot, you missed the turn! " .. stupid thigs like "turn left" though would be lame and creepy/weird.

Sapi5 are computer generated but some of them sound pretty good. A lot of people use Att natural voices or NeoSpeech. I am using a Cepestral voice because it was like $24.00(I think) and it sounds pretty good. Although I would really like to buy ScanSoft Heather (extremely sexy).

I haven't changed the IG voices but I have NaviVoice set up so it talks back to me and it sounds pretty good.

I read somewhere that if you change the IG files with human recorded files you need the speaker to be extremely disciplined. Apparantly it pieces together .wav files to make a sentence so if everything isn't recorded with the same pitch, tone volume it doesn't sound very good.

I plan to add voice nav to my GPS software, pretty easy to get voices and break them up into word wav files then play them in the right order to generate full basic speech.

I plan to do voice notifications like:

"x% of total travel distance completed" (long drive trips)
"x satellites now visible, y used for tracking"
"Estimated time of arrival x hours y minutes, z seconds"
"Distance from destination is now increasing"

I wonder at the fine line of amazement and annoyance
Maybe the first few hours will be "cor thats cool" followed by "grrrr".
(Must remember to put enable/disable voice alerts in software options)

I also plan to have a programmable amp audio input system.
Can (via software) turn off normal stereo input (or MP3) and switch to computer line out to perform voice messages then switch back to stereo or MP3.

Although wouldnt it suck listening to your fav song head banging the steering wheel followed by silence and some lame *** computer voice saying something you didnt need to hear then a blast of music returning.

(Perhaps a 'dont disturb me, this is my fav song(s)' option?)
Things can become complicated cant they?

                    Proposed carputer:

                    - Commell LV-650 mobo 128MB WinXP->CF
                    - Custom ctrl board (8ch ADC)
                    - Custom Delphi front end/hw ctrl software
                    - Mot M12 GPS (on COM1)+Maps
                    - 15" dash (non-inverter p/s hack)
                    - Remote control (IR to COM2)
                    - USB drive MP3 upload

Yes mute, but sometimes you have good songs you dont want to be interrupted, perhaps a 'd.n.d' score for each song?

Or maybe even better, only use voice alert/events in between song plays.
The only problem with that is you might get important events 3-4 mins late!
