  • Dismantle BU-353?

Anyone here taken one apart? Well, to save the suspense, i have.

Not much to them inside, so i was wondering.... how crucial is the top plastic piece? The reason i ask is, i want to mount mine completely stealth in my car and i'm thinking that if i remove the cover, then mount the reciever under a plastic trim piece in my boot (the rear quarter section that supports the parcel shelf) that this would in effect be no different to having the casing on the top of the receiver?

Please someone else follow my logic and let me know if i have the potential to get decent reception? It'll obviously be in direct lino-o-sight of the rear window so that won't be an issue.

Unfortunately i no way of testing before anyone flames me as the computer is not fully built yet and nor is my enclosure. The car is also in many pieces.

    Any help would be grand..
    James.

The casing is there only to provide protection to the components. If you can make sure it is protected from dirt, dust, grime, water, etc... you should be fine.

      excellent. cheers man.

now i just got to think of a way of securing the receiver to the underside of the parcel shelf support that will be safe to use.

      any ideas?

With out more info, no idea. Depends on where you want to put it, and what you have available there to mount it, and how good you are with your hands. Lots of possibilities though.

I'm dont know about over there, but here in Australia we have 3m 'Command' adhesive products like this. They're good, becuase they are extremely strong (different sizes for different applications) and they don't leave any marks when you pull it off. Similar to double sided tape, but it will never come off unless you want it to.

We can get them at any hardware stores/kmart.

At least you won't be screwing or gluing anything...

What is involved with taking it apart? I'ld like to see if it would fit in my shark fin.

                it's dead easy.

about 5 small screws underneath, then it all pops open
