Garmin had 2 versions of the software, 1 was with the included GPS dongle either 10x or 20x and only worked with the included dongle. The other version let you use any external GPS dongle. I beleive the any GPS version was called garmin XT. Hope this clarifies for you SNO

Not quite - there is no difference between versions. Garmin just wanted you to think that.

The only difference is in in the need for an unlock file when using ANY serial port GPS RX (Garmin PC in SW mode).

You place the SW.UNL file in the Garmin directory and it will run in Software mode – Remove it and it will run in Hardware mode (Tied to a Garmin GPS RX) if the GARMIN.NVM file in the user directory is left there. (Back it up)

You can delete the Directory in C:\Users\SomeName\AppData\Roaming\Garmin - BUT FIRST save the file GARMIN.NVM in the GarminMobilePC folder in the above Garmin directory. It holds the Hardwire REG Code for the X20 GPS-RX.

Nothing else seems to be needed.

Of course you need a way to generate the SW code if you have an existing Garmin (hardware) GPS setup. I'm sure someone can help out here - otherwise a search of Garmin GPS forums will turn up something.

You do know that you can press the Satellite Signal ICON on the start window - click Disable if its still scanning or wait until the GPS can not be located message and after clicking the Signal icon you have the option of selecting a Bluetooth, USB or Serial GPS device. The USB ports will be displayed for selection.

Any normal USB GPS mouse should work. Most GPS units run at 1Hz per second, Garmin can update at 5Hz per second if the GPS can output at that.

I have used 5 different GPS units with Garmin, some $10 imports. BT‐Q818XT is a 1, 5, 10Hz unit that I'm running at 5Hz. Another I have is a TS-GUM004 or TSGEB004. Various USB GPS Dongles all worked.

I'm sure others will post more, some are mentioned in the Garmin threads on here.

I setup Garmin Mobile PC successfully for my Car PC .
                Some pics attached.

I would like to buy a 8" 16:9 capacitive touchscreen, but I couldn't find anywhere selling it. Therefore, I bought the restrictive touchscreen from mp3car store...
