  • USB circuit board

In my continued obsession to have as few wires as possible inside my case. I've been thinking about making a custom circuit borad that would plug into the USB pin headers on my Jetway J7F2 and route out over the hard drive. (as I don't have the power supply there)

I was thinking 1 or 2 evenly spaced ports. Maybe even having the option to jumper power from the other 2 ports. More ports would require more board space and up the cost.

Is this worth doing? I may be stuck pruchasing 3 boards at a time so I figured I'd ask the community.

I dont understand what your getting at.

Are you adding USB port that are only reachable inside your case? Are you adding more USB ports to the back/side?

They would be inside the case only, sorry I've got the voom PC case guess what tid bit would have helped. So since that attachment point where the power supply would normally screw to is avil, that where i was planning on attaching the circuit board.

I'm mounting both GPS and WIFI inside the case with short antenna whips to external SMA connectors so the PC is as self contained as possible. THe circuit board would cut down on the number of internal wires, helping neatness and air flow.

Alternately you could just plug in a bunch of Flash drives for fake internal storage.

Could you use one of these?

No; I wasted money on that already. It faces over the PCI slot.. dumb design.

Desolder the black plug and solder some wires to it with a plug that goes to the mainboard...wouldn't cut down on wires though...

Yep, I have done that already as a temporary solution. I'm thinking this is a more permanent solution. The thought also occurred to me. I might try to put a pin connector for the fans and put a matching receiver on the inside of the case. That way whenever you slide the case closed the fans connect. As opposed to fighting with the wires each time.

I know you said you want to cut down on wires, but there is something in the MP3car store that could even bring the ports outside the case. Do you think this would help you?: http://store.mp3car.com/USB_header_e..._p/cbl-059.htm

                  Worked fine for me.
