    After years of wondering how to do the hardware, months of how to program the software, I was finally able to get a working microcontroller (MIC) to respond to our iBus messages. At this point, its piggy backed on Rolf Reslers iBus interface but Im trying to make it a standalone unit. With this MIC, Ive been able to program the Phone, Tape reverse, Clock, R/T and Talk buttons to activate relays momentarily (button push, On-Off) or behave as a toggle switch (button push, On. Button push again, Off). I can program many IBus messages to activate a relay Or a LED or anything else at this point (5V max). No plans to venture into sending iBus messages back to this system.

    What this will basically help you is to get rid of all those switches we mounted under the board monitor or next to the dimmer switch or center console, or any other goofy place weve mounted over the years.

    Though many large companies that have ipod integration products to plug and play, I don't recall seeing any "open source" solutions with terminals available to connect to whatever you want to control externally.

    I can program up to 11 functions at this point so plenty of options.

    Is there any interest in this?

    Out of curiosity, did you consider an existing open source hardware platform like the arduino to do what you describe? Seems like a natural fit. This is the route I was planning to investigate when I eventually get around to tech-ing out my m5.

      There are many microprocessor boards that will achieve this. The programming is what makes it a pain in the .......

        Interesting, if this were cheap I'd jump all over it. Especially if you made it a standalone unit.

          Can you give me a ball park price of what would be "cheap" or reasonable?

            Update

            Quick update. Been super busy with the baby's arrival
            I'm making my prototype board this weekend with 5 output relays. The unit enclosure will be roughly 3.25"x2.5"x1.25".
            I'm planning on making 2 versions:
            1. Is a fully stand alone unit, you'll have to attach to Ground, +12V and Ibus.
            2. Is a piggy back unit to Resler's interface. You'll have to send me your interface and I'll incorporate it into my box. Resler's interface will still be fully functional.

            Just curious as to what people would be willing to pay for either version . Just an FYI, parts alone cost me $60 without the labor of assembling, soldering and programming.

            P.S. I'm doing this as a hobby and not as a money making venture.

              Update:
              I've designed, essembled and tested 2 boards:

              Is there any interest in this? If so, what price range for either boards.
