  • Recommendation for a SPDT relay

    Hi i am in search of a SPDT 1,2,4 - channel relay(comparatively cheaper in price) with small footprint like the SSR or the photomos.. i need it for a multiplexer and a de multiplexer circuitary


    could any one suggest me any links for the same as i have tried a numerous times but was unsuccessful...


    the device needs to
    a. Minimum 5 V DC
    b. Maximum 20 V DC
    c. Maximum source current 150 mA
    d. Maximum sink current 300mA (only for SHORT_TO_GROUND).

    I hope someone can because I am totally lost to your requirement....
    (Are they coil or contact voltage specs; a relay will not limit short circuit current; its contact can sink or source and what "channels" - RC or Poles?)

    There are some remote control devices that have similar specs, but the relay part of the is irrelevant.

      I too don't fully understand your requirements. Could you perhaps rephrase the question?

        hi... thank you for the quick response...

        I am actually looking for some operation like a 2:1 multiplexer. 2 inputs to be selectable with one output.

        the system need follow these specifications that are taken care of by other parts not the Relays... The relay need to be used for multiple functionality at a single pin - 3 - 4 user selectable usages.... including interfacing a Programming voltage in between the specifications and then other signals using CAN or related technology..

        No mechanical parts can be used as the size of the device is a constraint as we need not just one but many relays.... so if possible could you please recommend something with small footprint which can be embedded in a small device

          Ok, I think I know what you mean. You want a circuit that works like a relay with a NO NC and COMMON. So COMMON and NC are connected when "0" is applied and COMMON and NO are connected when "1" is applied.

          You might be able to use a solid state relay with 3 terminals.

            Yes i think that is it... but i am having a tough time finding a specific IC for that product and also my system has 6 pins that have upto 4 user selectable funtions... that would make a tremendous no of relays in the board... could you guide me thru this....

              Are these analogue or digital signals being passed through? Can you just use a multiplexer? They do make analogue multiplexers and it sounds like this is what you want perhaps?

                my goal was to use a multiplexer that would adhere to the power electronics standards as this would be in between the power ranges from 5-20VDC . although the current is a 150mA and a sink current of 300mA

                My signals are of 5 types...
                a. programming voltage - 5-20Vdc 150mA
                b. ISO 9141/14230 K line / L line
                c. ISO i5765-4/CAN high/low
                d. SCI A/B Engine/Trans ( Tx/Rx )
                e. Short to ground on one pin

                pin 6 - a,c,d
                pin 7 - b,d,d,d(combination of transmitter only for A or B)
                pin 9 - d,a
                pin12 - d,a
                pin14 - c,a,d
                pin15 - b,e,d

                I can see some of them being used with a normal multiplexer but what about the others....

                  there can also be a reverse voltage from the battrey of about 24Vdc for atleast 10 mins...
