I tried extending an old AT style keyboard cable using CAT5e cable, there are 4 wires plus some copper strands in the cable. I want to know if the copper is a ground wire for the keyboard. Originaly I suspected it was only included to increase the strength of the cable or possibly shielding however after the mod the keyboard does not work. Can anyone confirm my suspicion that the strands are for grounding?
