  • seeking touchscreen for my 1.5 DIN cadillac

I'm restoring my 85 Cadillac DeVille and am looking to put in some new technology along the way. I am going to have to build a custom console for this project, so fitment is not a critical matter at this moment, but in general I would really like to put a surface mounted touchscreen into the 1.5 DIN dash opening, or just outside of it in the woodgrain surround.

Here is a picture of the dash (yes the steering wheel is on my list):

The stereo opening is 1.5 DIN so that is 180mm X 75mm.

The woodgrain "pocket" area around the stereo opening is approx 225mm X 120mm

If I cover the woodgrain area, the maximum usable space without blocking vents or ashtray and staying balanced is about 240mm X 150mm.

What would work best would be to have something about 200mm/8in wide by 100mm/4in tall, since that would cover the stereo opening but still leave a strip of the woodgrain exposed.

Anybody know of a touchscreen in that size? Very odd dimensions I know... I basically need a small widescreen with buttons on the sides.

As I said above, I'm also planning on building a custom console below the ashtray and can use a stock double-din unit if I need to, but I would really prefer to have the monitor in the dash if possible.

    Thanks!

I have the dynamix 816, and it's dimensions are as follows:
    Total unit: 194 mm x 130 mm
    Without bezel: 189 mm x 120 mm
    Viewable area: 178 mm x 108 mm

if you relocate the buttons to the side (or just remove them), that would come pretty darn close to the 200mm x 100mm you are looking for.

This is an 8" screen, so that's actually a little more than what most people do in a double din space (because they want to keep the bezels.) So I'd say, something with this size would be a good bet.

Welcome to the forum. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did not know about Dynamix. The 806 actually looks like it might work without major mods, since the buttons are already on the side. If I pull off the bezel it might just fit, although it looks like the bottom goes down a bit which may need "adjustment"

if you look at my worklog, I'm fabricating the bezel into a custom dash piece. The 806 would be fairly easy to do this to since they use ABS for the bezels, and you might just need to trim down a small amount to get it to fit.

I love the screen, no problems yet. It's readable in the daylight (not as much as transflectives though) and has a good quality feel to it.
