  • USB Hub Doesnt Work On Boot - Help

I have a Gigabyte 7VM400M Motherboard with a Lilliput 629 Touchscreen attached. The computer is in the back of my SUV and the touchscreen is in the dash in the front. There was a USB cable running from the back computer to the front touchscreen.

A few days ago I installed a USB 2.0 4-port Hub and attached it to that same cable, and then plugged in the Lilliput and a DeLorme Earthmate LT-20 USB GPS. Both of which work fine on the hub.

However, yesterday and today when I boot the carputer with the hub connected, the computer will not recognize the touchscreen or the GPS. Its almost as if the USB Hub didnt initialize on boot. I have to disconnect the USB cable going to the hub, and reconnect it. (The PC makes the "Ding-Ding" noises) ONLY then will the USB hub work, and recognize the screen and the GPS.

Does anybody know why this is happening? Is this a common issue, and is there a common fix?

I have searched but didnt find anything useful. Everything is running on Windows XP Mediacenter Edition with the latest updates. I usually wouldnt mind having to reconnect the hub everytime I boot, but I put the hub inside the dash behind the screen so it really is a major hassle to do that EVERYTIME I start my car.

If anybody can help me out, I would truly appreciate it. Many thanks in advance

More then likely it'll be a combination of settings in your bios.
Every motherboard seems to be different and i'm not familiar with your so you might have to do a little investigating.
Try to meddle with these settings and see what you get... (these were found from this site: www.techspot.com/vb/topic18940.html
      1) Disable ACPI 2.0 support in BIOS.
      2) Disable APIC support in BIOS.
      3) Disable USB Legacy support in BIOS.
      4) Make sure that the boot sequence in BIOS does not include and USB devices.
      5) Insert an additional USB controller in the form of PCI card and connect the hub (or any other USB device which causes problems) to this card’s ports.
      6) Try various combinations of input devices:
      a) PS2 keyboard / PS2 mouse
      b) PS2 keyboard / USB mouse
      c) USB keyboard / PS2 mouse
      d) USB keyboard / USB mouse
