  • Wireless Zenith Cruispad

I didn't find this anywhere on the forum so....

Anyone thought of using a Zenith Wireless Cruisepad? It's 640x480 (monochrome) wireless remote control of a PCwith a "CruiseLAN" card.

"The CruisePAD is a wireless remote interface to a PC or Network Server that allows remote access to system resources from anywhere in the workplace/home.

CruisePAD uses Zenith Data Systems CruiseLAN wireless spread spectrum and frequency hopping LAN communication technology. It also implements a Novell IPX/SPX protocol stack to remotely communicate with a host PC. "

This one seems to be color [edit: its NOT, it's B&W], but w/o the card - $30 shipped (so far)

new for $38 (with the card!):

and if you'd like to buy a pallet:

They look kinda cool, if not as a remote for the car, it would make a nice PC home theatre remote, no?

I want one. I have no clue why, but I do... just like those damned Audrey keyboards.

that looks pretty cool, and for $38 not too expensive. It seems to be just a glorified PC remote control, I wonder how functional it would be for our purposes.

Not a bad idea though, let the people in the backseat control the music, etc.

do you need a special adapter to have that work in your system? looks like a good idea for a great price...

Adaptor? Well you do need their special "CruiseLAN" card which is included in the $38 B&W version. Beyond that I have no idea.

They have a second version out (the color one you see on that eBay link)...which would be ninja sweet as well, except it doesn't seem to include the card.

Either way, not bad for a HTPC or something. I wonder what the refresh rate is? It would be even cooler to use it as a way to watch TV from your bed/kitchen/garage. Oh wait...there's probably no sound...so scratch that. Unbless you had wireless headphones hooked up that magically synced audio with the video coming through that thing.

Ahh but I degress. Is anyone willing to buy one and try thr B&W version out? If I wasn't jobless and in college, I would

Does it need a propreity lan card? Because some of the info I found mentions a cruiselan wireless card.

            Info on cruise pad
            - 3+ years & still no carputer!
            - Done collecting parts
            - Currently planning setup

and the lan card is available for $27 http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com...tid=NOT-ZCRPCM

i'm not so sure that ebay version is color, it doesn't specifically state it, and the display isn't obviously color, so I'm not too sure.

Hmm perhaps you're right. At first glance I thought that the dialog box looked somewhat violet, and that theres a top bar colored in blue.

They do have color version though:

                      Review

                      Review of the B&W version:
                      http://pencomputing.com/archive/PCM_...cruisepad.html

And I stand corrected, the eBay version is B&W. From the review of the color version I posted above:
CruisePAD NXT - Barely larger than the original PAD, the sleek NXT has a gorgeous 12.1 inch SVGA screen made by Sharp.
Thanks Birrman54. Sorry for confusing everyone, I'll correct my original post.

not your fault, filip, where the hell can you buy that 12.1in version? The color SVGA screen would be awesome, anyone know where it's available for purchase?

Google came up with nothing when i searched for it (you know thats bad news).

It doesn't look like it made it to production. The last mention of it was at some tech show.

from what I've read on it, you need to use some type of client/server software.

                              and they said, no 2k,XP

will work on DOS, or WFW, possibly win9x

Also client software was made by citrix, so maybe have to use winframe or some earlier wierd protocol
