    hi im trying to see if anyone has used the rcjoycon to get the steering wheel controls working on a 2002 pontiac trans am. as far as i can tell it has one wire on the radio harness for steering wheel controls.
    i dont just suck at spelling i also suck at typing.

    The wire on the harness is based on 12V and I'm not sure what RCJoyCon takes. The other way to interface is the 4 pin connector under the steering column. I can't remember if it's the 2 inside or 2 outside, but can look. 2 are for the backlights (12V when lights on, and ground) and the other 2 are 12V and the wire that goes to the harness. Find male and female connectors to go inline or clip the 12V and replace it with the RCJoyCon power side.

      thanks for the reply curiosity. heres a bit more info on what i have happening

      the joycon is currently hooked up at the harness signal wire is hooked up to to the steering wheel while black is hooked up to ground. the joycon does reconize the button presses but it puts them in a unuasble range.(im guessing the 12v is to much) if i tap into the harness under the column would the signal change.

      heres what the joycon page says

      Converts resistance-output steering wheel remote controller into USB HID keyboard and HID remote controller.
      - Works same as standard USB HID keyboard and HID remote controller by hardware.
      - 24V tolerant 4 channel resistance input.
      - Supports 28 physical buttons, 52 programmable logical buttons.
      - 2 logical button for one physical button, up to 5 simultaneous key strokes by one button.
      - 2 programmable LED port.
      - Remote wake-up(resume PC from sleep with steering wheel remote controller).
      - Temperature range : -40 ~ +85C

      the part in bold if im reading right mean the 12volts should be fine right?

        It's tolerant but that just means safe. It doesn't mean it will work.

        Are the values too high or too low? What is the value when buttons are pressed and when none are pressed?

          sorry im still a bit new to this. i dont know if your familiar with the joycon software at all but going by that the when no button is pressed the value is at 230 in the software and when ever i press any button it goues to the max value of 255. all the buttons do this. i was hopeing it was something simple like adind a resistor inline but im begining think its just not going to work.

            the other option i was thinking is useing one of the pac modules before the joycon. i was thinking that they may reduce the voltage. i would assume most aftermarket headunits would use a resistive signal. but not to sure about that.

              I'm not familiar with it, and don't know if it has it's own resistors. It sounds like it doesn't. If I remember correctly, the button resistors run from 600 to 1.3K ohms and it's open when nothing is pressed. If you have any resistors laying around, put one between the input and ground. My ADC is running 5V through it and uses a 2.5K pulldown, so I'd say test with at least 2, around 4.7K and say 2.2K and see which one gives you better numbers. It should work.

                I'm curious about this as well, since my new software upgrade (Win7 &, CF 3.1) all of a sudden is playing hell with my SWI-X + USB-UIRT. (won't work after hibernation). I was interested in the Joycon EX.

                  No idea about hibernation but I'm sure you can get it to work. The 255 for all buttons shows that it's just getting a high value instead of variations in voltage. Once a pulldown resistor is in there it will work like a proper divider ladder. Currently it's just like 12V----/\/\/\/---Input (12V)

                    So you think inserting a resistor in series with the input may be able to get the resistance down to a point where it's within the joycon's range? Wouldn't that just increase the resistance past the range? I just want to ditch the SWIX-USBUIRT combo, cause then I can ditch Girder, plus a really weird problem when my power windows hit limit (up or down) the USBUIRT stops accepting input for 15 seconds or so. I need a hardwired solution like the Joycon.

                      No, it needs a resistor between ground and the input, otherwise there's no division of voltage so it stays the same. Somewhere between 2-5K, I forget. When the windows hit limit the current increases dropping voltage. Not not sure why it would cause problems though. I'm actually taking my motors out today to override the thermal breakers. They both have trouble again.

                        every one ive talked to says this should be working. unfourtnatley i dont have any resistors here but i will pick some up and let you know how it goes.

                          It will work. These are the values I get on mine. So you should get 1/4 of these, since yours is 8 bit instead of 10 bit. If the values are all on the low end the resistor is too low, high end it's too high.

                            Curiosity, If I bought a Joycon EX, do you think I would have the same issues as Luna? Or is his issue unique?
