the base install of win98se is like 80 megs. And that is absolutely *nothing* on it. Win 95 installs could go as low as 32 megs, but doesn't support USB.

You *could* at least pretend that Win98 will fit on a thumb drive, so it would fit, but then you would also need to pretend that the drive would fail within a week or so because of the constant read/write hits the OS would be putting it through.

Then of course, you get to pretend you are RMAing the thing and going through that all that happy horseshiat if you bought it online...

In the end, I say just pretend you didn't ask, because it ain't happenin' none too soon my friend!

YES YOU CAN!!!! There was a project to get Win98 down under 5MB!!!! However, you lose EVERYTHING accept code processing. You get the gui and no icons, no PnP support, and NO support for video, audio, or graphics. So to answer your question, yes you can fit it, but is it worth it?
                  Try windows98Lite.

Yes, the size would not be a problem, It's just a matter of removing the right files. Problem is windows does not support booting from USB. It will boot to a DOS prompt, but then start complaining about missing files because it has no C: drive.

Linux OTOH can boot from a usb stick. (try googling for knoppix usb stick or something)

                        (worked on my via M10000)

I believe you're talking about Win95.. That has been shrunk (?) to under 5mb.. However, 98 will never go that low.. www.98lite.net for Windows98lite.. However, this has been covered before!

if you were even able to do it, it would with certainty be slower.
