  • Thumb sticks?

Anyone know where you can get a thumbstick that will work with a pc as a mouse?

I was recently inside of a new Maxima with the stock Nav system and it had this cool thumb stick to control the screen. Car wasnt on so im just assumeing it controled the screen. Anyway, how can i get something like this in my car.

I also though about hacking apart an xbox controller and use the thumbstick as a mouse. I already have gotten the xbox controller to act as a mouse, im just not sure if the thumbstick can be removed from teh controller and still work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

i have a thumb rollerball as my backup. it works decently. it's like a flight stick shape. the ball is on top where usually the hat is and trigger is the mouse buttons.

or you could use a XBOX controller, hacked to whatever shape you want, and gain control of it via girder and its joystick plugin... should work good ennough.

well, depending on your skills, I am quite certain there is a way to use that.

once you talked about this, I started to wonder if there is a way to put those on the sterring wheel... could be usefull to scroll the screen... or maybe not.

anyway, there is most likely a way to re-house the thumbpad somewhere.

try a goole surch on "joystick mouse"
found both hardware replacements and software to use a joystick to replace a mouse.
had one of these but years ago ,hated it !!

dont know if this is what you want but is as close as you will get to a nissan navi control. one thing to also consider is with the navi control it will jump to the next icon. a mouse moves to any point one the display.

This probably isn't what you are looking for, but the link was floating around in some of the other sections of the forums. Its basically a pointing stick like the ones used in IBM thinkpads. Has a serial connection as well. Just look at this really ugly URL:
