  • software for bluetooth phones

Does any one have experience with a software similar to this one...It can control winamp as well as windows media player thru bluetooth...I thought it would be a good idea just to use my cell phone to control basic functions of the carputer...or would it just be a better idea to get a IR device and use my existing radio remote?

I thought he killed it entirely - even the paid version. Last I heard he'd taken down the web site and announced the project was discontinued.

i cant believe people make you pay for software like that, a friend and i (ok mostly a friend) wrote a piece of software like that, i have since switched to fma http://fma.sourceforge.net/ because it does way more. Its not the best for car use though because its a large program

                Yep, its gone

                @Nic

It's mostly because of attitudes like yours that the project was cancelled.
So, you donít believe people should be paid for their work if they want to? What do you do?

I dunno why its been canceled, but he was a bit too quick to introduce the pricing. And there wasn't a "lite" version. When NaviVoice (with a new name) goes public there will be a lite version to intorudce users and then a pay version which people don't have to use if they don't want to pay for. Plus it will be 2x cheaper than PhoneCo was.

Yeah, it truly sucks when people spends thousands of hours and a lot of their own money trying to do something good for the community and then they have the nerve to try and get a few bucks in return

It's strange... as soon as there is anyone on a forum who comes up with a great piece of software everyone is entitled to support 24/7, instant bug fixes (no more than 30min after the initial bug-post), and it should always be free.

It seems everyone thinks that just because they're starting to charge a small sum everyone thinks they're going to be the next Bill Gates and that's with MY HELP !!! since I actually helped that guy with debugging his software.

I "know" this guy who wrote an amazing program for use on our motorcycles, does almost anything and a lot more than Dynojet's Powercommander, now he never gave it away to start with (good for him probably) but still people have a problem paying less for his program than PowerCommander (even thogh it does a lot more) just because it's "just some software and a cable".

So it seems that as soon as you "know" someone from a forum and it's a one man project, you're entitled to all the things I mentioned above...

Its kinda sad news... despite the fact I never got PhoCo working (still I did not bother post a bug report) and I have to also admit I did not like it that much (so thats why I did not bother... hmmmm ).
Zorro's plans and his support was always very impressive. Its definitelly loss for the community. Anyway, everyone deserves whatever he decides to and I am not surprised to see Zorro to quit endless circle of instant support requests and neverending bug reports.

PS: And I trully hate .NET

No i'm quite happy to support phone control, from what i saw in that link (and i must admit i only looked at it quickly) it seamed to be cheap simple software, whereas phone control is a much more developed piece of software and its primary use is something completly different to that of the link.

I am quite happy to pay for software, but i hate when people try to sell inferior software when you can get a better alternative free. My post had no relation to phonecontrol at all, and when i upgrade my car pc i would (well would have) been quite happy to purchase phone control.

                              fma

Floats Mobile Agent is awesome.....for desktop use...does everything phone control did and much more like plugins for controlling winamp/wmp or anything else running on your pc with your phone.

Only problem is that the UI is not very good for touchscreen use. I think it has a skinning engine, but I haven't seen anyone create a theme for in-car use. Cant even find where to change the font etc. Other that that, its awesome.

Yeah, you can remote control your pc through your phone. I use the joystick on my t610 to control the mouse through Float
