  • Custom touchpad with right/left buttons and thumbpad in armrest

just did this yesterday. cut apart a miniature keyboard and took out the touchpad. Had to cut off the wiring to the kayboard. I cut out a square section of the control panel I had to make, under the thumbpad keyboard. Then I glued the touchpad board under that flush. Then I soldered two momentary switches (red and black mini) into the little right/left click controller board and put them into place next to the touchpad.

The only thing else that I'd like to do is find some kind of like.... rubber coating stuff that I can put on the edge of the aluminum square I had to cut out... so it would look better... (without electrical tape - hahaha)... anyone know of anything I could use to coat those edges? (rubbery)

you could also use small rubber tubing from the hardware store, cut a slit down the center and glue it in place.

I have some rubber edge trim that would be perfect. PayPal me $5 and a length and I'll send it to you USPS Priority.

                Nice work.

Hmm.. I think I should sand the aluminum too... need to take out the little tiny scratches. Maybe use 2000 grit? Is there a better way to polish that thing up to be nice and clean looking?

to get this to look really clean it should look like it belongs there...is there any other polished aluminum in the interior? do you plan on adding any to tie this in? if not you may want to consider tring to get this to match the rest of your interior by either painting, wrapping or covering in something that matches the rest of the interior...just one opinion...........

hmmm... never thought about that. I guess I just liked it being silver, lol. I think I will paint it flat black. Any other color suggestions? Like gloss etc...?
