  • SAPI Speech Training

When training SAPI from Control Panel -> Speech did you guys just do the introductory training or go on and finish the extended training(Aesops Fables, Etc..)

If so, did it help much? I got a cheapo mic today and just did the introductory but it didnt work well at all.. Then my friend did the intro and one of the extended training sessions and her results here much much better than mine.

I was wondering if I do them all can I expect 90+% accuracy?

    fyi, I am using centrafuse.

    buurin,

I'm using SAPI speech recognition in my home automation setup (an Epia system). I've found that the more you train, the better it gets. Mine's pretty accurate for the stuff I use it for (stuff like, "Computer, turn on the porch light." or "Computer, what's the temperature outside?", etc). I'm sure it would be similar for a car environment. A good mike helps too.

However, it trains to your voice only, so if you have other users using the system, it makes things more complicated. A workaround for this is to do the training with the other person together, e.g. each person alternates reading the sentences.

(In purchasing stage for my carputer...almost ready to start install).

from my understanding you must download the SDK

        http://www.microsoft.com/speech/download/old/sapi5.asp

get 5.1, i think it is most recent.

someone correct me if any of this is wrong.

You can get SAPI from a MS Office Pro 2003 disk. That's SAPI6. You can D/L sapi 5 on the web.

About training: the mroe the merrier. Also increase the sensitivity and turn OFF background adaptation unless you want it to respond to music (then u'd have to retain it again).

I don't know specifics, but the Office 2003, SAPI 6 version is just suppose to be better at recognition. You definitly want 6 if you can get your hands on it.

Background Adaptation is descirbed as a feature that would seem ideal for a automotive environemnt. Are you suggesting it does not work well or am I misunderstanding its purpose?

"Background Adaptation: When you click this option button, you can set whether the computer adapts to your voice and manner of speech. With this option, the computer learns what your voice sounds like (in a particular environment). This information is stored in your profile and contributes to an improvement in recognition accuracy. It is a best practice to select this option. "

You should turn that off. It's only useful when you have "constant" background noise in your environment.

In a car, the music becomes the background noise and, of course, it changes frequently.

Unless you only listen to classical music, turn it off, unless you want rappers controlling your car pc. It will think that the musical background (drums, etc) is the background noise, and that the singer is your voice. Do you want this? Its for you to decide.
