  • Anyone know what a RAID Microphone is?

I was talking to some guys on the Speech team today and I was like "blah blah blah... Background noise sucks.... blah blah blah"

So then he said something about them playing with "raid micropohones" to combat the problem... his description of these things was basically a bunch of microphones used to figure out what is your voice and what is background noise. They are based on the principle that your voice is somewhat omnidirectional whereas background noise is less direct

Is this old technology or something new? And has anyone dealt with incorporating these into their install? Sounds like it has potential.

he said raid... and i was like raid like hard drives? and he said yes.

However a quick msn search brought this up:
      http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...MicArrays.mspx

      Which is his product group.

So he must have meant array. Thanks. I couldnt find anything under raid.

So now my question is.. if i got an array mic, the OS needs to support it? I thought the mic just does all the stuff it needs to do and feeds the computer a nice clean voice command.

Would an array mic get rid of the horrible echo the person on the other end hears of themself when I use the carpc as a bluetooth headset?
