  • Won't boot with the screen closed

I got an old Dell 8100 up and running with a Carnetix P1900. I have been opening the screen when it starts up since I haven't purchased a touch screen yet. The problem is that I was leaving the laptop screen closed, like I will do when I get the touchscreen and put the laptop under my seat, and it would turn on but won't boot into windows. The power lights come on and it stays on for about 10 seconds but then the laptop turns off. I checked the BIOS but found no sort of setting. I was thinking about finding the switch thing that tells the laptop whether the screen is closed or open but there is no rubber thing sticking out like my Compaq so I'm thinking there is a magnet detection thing. It works fine when I power it up with the screen open but I won't have the screen open when I get a touchscreen. Any help would be much appreciated.

In the power options control panel, there should be settings for what action Windoze should take when the lid is closed.
Make certain that is set to NOTHING.

You may also want to scour the BIOS for any setting pertaining to the lid switch.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I already have the option set to do nothing with the lid. I don't think it has anything to do with windows because it is shutting off before windows. I think it has to do with the hardware and BIOS. Unfortunately I can't find anything in the BIOS.

Nevermind. I just took the magnet out so it thinks the screen is open all the time.
