  • Output to 2nd screen on start up

I', planning on using an old laptop that my sister doen't use anymore for a car PC

    Question 1
is there a way to set up the laptop in bios or something that makes the laptop resume from hybernating and when starting to clone the desktop on a second screen?

    Questino 2
How do you get a front end to start up outomatically when the laptop turns on?

any and all help would be greatly appriciated.

First, don't double post. You'll get on people's nerves that way.
Second, front ends, as well as any other program, will be in the same state that you hibernated in. If the computer went into hibernation with the front end running, it will resume that way.
Third, I would imagine the same would go for the second monitor. If the computer is cloning the desktop when going into hibernation, it will probably be that way when it comes back.

Use a VGA splitter if you want both screens to display the same thing when the pc starts up.

I think he means a 2nd screen other than the laptop screen, so no VGA splitter is necessary unless it's for a 3rd screen.

yeah I wouldn't seed a splitter because I would just use the external vga output.

The reason I ask about putting to a second screen you know when you start a laptop up you have to go throught the settings on the destop to put it on a second monitor I want the laptop to start that way so i don't have to open the laptop in the trunk just turn it on and it does it automatically

lastly for the vets sorry for the double post...I know I suck.....forgive me for my sins oh mighty gods of the forum it shall not happen again

            Second Monitor

Most portables have a F key that doubles as Fn keys.
One of the F keys should have a set of monitors on it.

Press and hold the Fn key, Press the Monitor key once and it should switch to the External monitor, Press it again and Both monitors should have the same screen.

            Hope that helps

Hey GMC1 that's a cool hot key never knew that

yeah I know you can do that but having to pull alaptop out from under a seat everytime to get it to work is a pain in the butt. I want it to attoumatically do it when it starts up so I don't have to mess with it.

                Second monitor

Once set, the only time you need to "reapply" the hot keys is after you remove the 2nd monitor.

I turn mine off, put it to sleep, even pull power and when it comes back up, (lid on pc closed), the touch screen works. When I open the PC lid, both have the same screen.

Make sure your Video settings are correct and set to mirror.

I just disconnected the plug for the lcd from my motherboard and plugged an external monitor into the vga port. I didn't have to tell the computer to do anything, it just happened automatically. That may be because I am using a docking station though...

possiable the docking station tells the laptop to go to an external screen right away.
