  • Pioneer Appradio 2 with ARLiberator

Just thought i'd throw this up for anyone interested in dedicating a android unit to their vehicle for a fair price as this is the best solution i've come across recently. I'll edit and post more about this in the future but for now check out the forums and the play store app. you can youtube this as well for more info.

ARliberator allows complete control of your android device through your appradio 2 headunit, Your device DOES NEED ROOT for this to work properly, only the appradio 2 headunit is currently fully supported but the developer is beta testing to support other pioneer headunits with android app mode, if interested you can beta test these at the appradio forums.

Appradio 2 is currently on sale at best buy for $280!

    Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...liZXJhdG9yIl0.

    I'm very interested in this!
Do you have any videos of it's operation, like you did with the Android unit you tested.

I might have to wait on this until they can support the GS4 that I'll be getting once it's released.

I tried this and I hated it. Sent it back to crutchfield and got a refund for the App. If only someone trustworthy would build and sell an android based HU.

I actually have a Parrot HU in hand. I got it from Crutchfield with plans of testing it out. After looking at more and more threads and youtube vids, I can tell I won't like it without doing a ton of changes which I don't have the time or patience for. As far as building my own, I was very close to doing a Nexus 7 build, but no one has done a good job at taking and making calls through the tablet. I also would hard volume knob or button as well as FM radio. I don't have unlimited internet and I'm not about to use it to get free FM radio.

What didn't you like about it? I have been using Appradio2 with ARLiberator app for over six months and have been quite pleased with it.

I had this setup for about a month. My only problems were that the connection process was not consistent for me. I would often times get to the android screen, but touch screen would not work. Sometimes it worked fine, sometimes it didn't work at all. Another issue I had was the snow issue and I could not get rid of this. Every time my phone dropped from a 4G to a 3G signal I would get snow and the screen and audio would blank out. One of my biggest drawbacks though was that I just didn't like the head unit at all. I didn't realize it at first until my friend wanted to play a track off his android phone....he didn't have the app obviously...so I shot for an aux in except...the unit didn't even have one...I couldn't believe it. I also didn't like how disconnected the FM Radio felt from the android side (having to go from the app and then exit the app then back to the app). Finally, what killed it for me was that using the MHL cable, killing the screen, and using fast charge, I still couldn't keep my phone charged. It was constantly losing power.

There are definitely a lot of perks to this setup, and I feel like if you master all the little things it could work out nice, but for me it just wasn't what I was looking for.

So I've been following ARLiberator to see how it will work with the new Appradio 3 and the newer phones.
The other day I went to check on the forums, and it appears to be gone now. I think this app might be dead now.

This really bums me out because my plan was to get a new phone soon was thinking maybe a GS4, or the new Sony Z1. And then get the new appradio 3.
But now I don't know what to do, since the app doesn't have any support now.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to this app?
This was such a perfect idea, and exactly what I wanted but now I'm back to square 1.

The app isn't dead and the forums are back up now, however the developer has been in the hospital for the last little while due to heart complications and he's the only developer so i wouldn't expect any quick development updates. There is apparently another developer on XDA forums working to hack the stock pioneer app to work with all applications.

The new development app is called ARUnchained, you can google search it or find it on the XDA forums. I tried it out the other night and it works quite well so far.
