  • Newbie Questions

    Hello all,

    I'm in search of some answers to some questions I have that are likely to be pretty basic.

    To start out, my goal is to replace the double din stock head unit in my 2005 Silverado 2500 with a nexus 7.
    I know where I'm going to get the power for it in order for it to stay on for 10s after the ignition is turned off, but from there on I'm not for sure how to do everything.

    So after wiring in a relay and a DC-DC converter, what comes next? A usb hub? This gentleman summed it up pretty nice on one forum I found, saying
    Yes, ignition->relay-> 12v 3A usb converter-> usb hub -> Nexus 7/DAC/USB Storage/Joycon Steering wheel controller
    Edit:Figured this out after browsing http://mehrvarz.github.io/usb-host-m...gement-nexus7/
    It's likely I'll wire it like so: http://mehrvarz.github.io/img/otg-chrg-opt1.png

    If this is correct, it's pretty simple and shouldn't be a problem for me.
    Onto my next question, once I get the nexus 7 powered up, how do I connect it to my stock speakers? I know very little about car audio. I do know that my truck has a bose system in it with a built in amp, will that work? I've read that an amp is necessary with this setup, even if it's a basic 4 channel amp.

    Oh and I'll be using Timur's kernal for my nexus 7, I don't suspect any difficulty there as I'm pretty good with computers and software.

    Thanks for any help!
    -Lane

    as for the turning the nexus on and off , there is an app for that called tasker, it can kill wifi/bluetooth/3g and whatever else you want to turn off when you turn your ignition off.

    It will also turn the screen off or on , either by sensing if the nexus is being charged or not, or by connection to a mobile Phone , its a pretty extensive ap that is a must have for carpc....errr.... cartab enthousiasts

      Right on, I got that part figured out. I just want to know more about the car audio side. How am I going to get it to play on my speakers? An amp? I don't know how my truck currently handles it. I know the stock bose system has an amp but it may only power the stock sub.
