  • Got my Lilliput 8" today - My first impressions...

Ok, the fist thing I notice without a doubt is that the build quality of Lilliput has dramatically improved since I last purchased one about 2 years ago. Everything feels more solid. Case construction feels solid and the bezel seems to be more dense and feels like it makes a better connection to the caseback. I bench tested the monitor and I was very please with what I saw. So far, I've only sampled the screen at 800x600 but images were clear, text was readable and the display was quite pleasing. After a sufficient time bench testing, I immediately set to taking apart the case so I can prepare for molding the screen into my truck. I was disappointed to find the same flimsy, awkward ribbon locking connector inside as they used before. This tiny little plastic locking tab, as fragile as anything on earth, is single-handidly responsable for the hundreds of posts on here asking "where can I get a new lilliput controller?" At any rate, I had more than learned my lesson dealing with the fragility of the clip and the frustration of trying to line up the ribbon cable with the connector, so this time I avoided the headache. I simple opened the case in this manner:

    1. Removed the 4 screws from the back.
    2. Try to delicately remove the little tag on the crease of the case that voids the warranty if it is damaged.
    3. Fail at this
    4. Swear silently
    5. Gentley pry the case apart using steady, slight pressure.
    6. Pull the TS connector off of the double sided tape that holds it down.
    7. Slide the rear case section to the side to reveal the 2 screws on the side of the metal bracket that holds the LCD down. I was pleased to find that the new brackets are actually a square structure that runs the length of the sides in lieu of the old single, very tiny swiveling L brackets that lined up and never quite went back the same way.
    8. Move the rear case section ot the other side to reveal the other 2 screws.
    9. Move the rear case section to the back to reveal the button circuit board.
10 Unscrew the button board and remove the whole rear case/LCD/button panel as one unit, not having to deal with the removal of any wires or ribbons.

I will be molding the front bezel into my truck as soon as time permits. I will report back with my further impressions as this happens.

they have DEFINITELY improved in quality.. so much so that the argument of xenarc vs. lilli is pretty much pointless unless uwant the autoswitch feature standard. I think u'll be pleasantly surprised with the daytime visibility of the unit as well. My windows are tinted 20% but i never have any total washout issues with my 8". The prior 7" was terrible.

And the autoswitch can be programmed easy enough per the instructions somewhere on this site.

Im wondering what resolutions you were able to get it to work at? Did you manage to get 800x480 going?
Ive been researching these and read that the lil's have problems display that resolution.
Also does it use the same hitachi panel as the dynamix/tview 8"? the ones with the aluminum bezel?

Im basically torn between the lilly and the dynamix 8 inch... I want the better screen.... help me out if you can guys

7" is too big slightly. So no the 8" won't fit. A double din is 6.5" screen ready.

Thats a shame, I was hoping to get the quality from this new screen. Are the Lilli 7" screens they sell now still not up to the same quality?

it really depends mine sits quite nicely in the double din once u shave down the bezel. My fabrication was quite easy. As for the resolution question.. i dont really know.. because the screen isnt widescreen i have no use for 800x480.

I didn't try 800x480 yet, I have no use for it. I can try it for you, but it will be able to if you like soon enough, but I'm fabbing it currently so it'll be while. Really sonic, it fit into a DD? I was a little surprised at how big it actually was when I opened up the box.

I wonder when these companies are going to realize that most of these screens are purchased for fabbing into dashes and make them a bit more fab-friendly. IE, squarer bezel with no ridges and grooves on the front.

Did you have much trouble when you initially fabbed the previous 7" in your bezel?

i actually didnt fab the 7" in really. All i did was glue it behind the bezel. There was about a half inch of the lilliput bezel showing on both sides and it was about a quarter inch shorter than the stock double DIN. There should be pics of it on here somewhere.

That is exactly what I did for the first year-ish!

Buit then I (read GoHybrid) fabbed it in.

What is your screen model? Is it this one: http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...Code=MON%2D005

What resolution are you using? 640x480 or 800x600?

The reason I ask is because the specification reads that it has 640x480 resolution. So I assume that for higher resolutions (such as 800x600) it will "zoom out" so it will fit.

If that's true, I am afraid to be disapointed with image quality (eg letters) when using 800x600 in this screen.

Yes, its the MP3car 8" lilli, not the widescreen one.

Vamarante, did you read this post or just post here?

Look at the first post and then the ones below, I already talked about what resolution I have used and what I haven't and gave my first impressions of 800x600
