  • Subaru-related opinion input please

    Hi all,
I'd really appreciate some words of wisdom as i'm trying to catch all the angles here.

I have an idea for my '02 WRX install and its not quite along the standard.

The de facto wrx install usually consists of 7" Touchscreen in the Double-DIN
stereo area, and putting a regular head unit in the dash-clock area.
(As seen courtesy of SnowDrifts Install Picture).

Now i'd like to know if any subaru owner has done this(and anyone else that has quality feedback
they would like to share), has anyone put an In-dash Touchscreen(ex - http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...Code=MON%2D020)
in the former clock area in the dash and used the normal stereo area for.. stereos? If the answer is yes can you please direct me to some pictures.
If the answer is no can you give be a brief why/why not.

    Thanks all in advance
    Jared

The in dash units fall apart. Why bring that on yourself? If you are worried about theft get something to lay over the screen dont buy an over priced and likely to break motorized LCD...
Here is a link to my install thread...sorry it is the same as usual. But sometimes there is value in that.

    edit:
In dash may be easier to install, but it will never be as good as a solid mount like that.

The in dash is really the standard in that you don't need to do anything more than take out the stereo and mount two boxes back in, but the screen will inevitably be in the way of something.

I've been thinking about throwing and indash model in my Forester. The non-motorized ones that can swivel and tilt. In theory this will give one the ability to angle the screen away from sunlight and glare.
However, I haven't read many reviews on them.. and the ones that I have read have been only so so.

I installed a double din housing up top in my forester, where i put a 7 inch linitx in the mechatronix housing. I couldn't imagine having the display on the bottom. It's very convenient not having to take my eyes off the road to look at it up top. Also, there's plenty of room behind the housing, i mounted my gps reciever in there. Works fine through the plastic and it's completely hidden.

This was exactly the reason I was thinking of putting it up there.

As long as you dont mind the long reach to touch the screen and adjust volume, etc. you're good to go. I'm a tall guy so the seat is usually all the way back - and I think its a little to far...try it out and make sure its not gonna bug you.

              I did a similar thing with my '99 2.5rs

It worked just fine, I didn't mind reaching further to get to the headunit buttons
