  • Window Tint/LCD Glare

    Hey all,
Finally got the carPC finished, running a 7" lilliput in there, but sometimes the glare is terrible. Heres my question: Window Tinting - Obviously, this will help. That said, I don't want to draw too much attention to my car and want my tint to be legal so I'd probably go 50% around the entire car (minus windshield). Can anyone tell me specifically if 50% tint would dramatically help? If not 50%, what tint would be needed to reduce the glare?

    Thanks guys!

i think you need to tint the top of your windshield...and do it at 15-25%...not 50...

that all depends on where you live...

in America, its illegal to tint your whole windshield (but you can down to a certain point), but your front side windows are legal al over...and depending on what state you live in depends on how dark you can have them...most states dont like the driverside front window to be tinted, but thats mostly at the discression of the cop, and if hes had a bad day or not...

Edit: make that the U.S. not just America...cause you are in North America as well...

Thats just really bad advice man. Check your states vehicle code on tinting. Look it up online. It not that hard to find out what your state allows. Tinting the front drivers and passengers window IS NOT LEGAL in every state. I believe its illegal IN MOST STATES unless you have specific medical conditions in which case you need a doctors notice to be in compliance. Most tint installers will install tint regardless of state laws, so be aware!

Yup - definitely illegal to have any tint on the front windows in New Jersey. But, I did it anyway... 20%.

You would probably never get pulled over just for the tint, but if you get stopped for anything else, or drive like a jerk with the bass up in residential areas... count on a tint fine getting tacked on!

It does help keep the screen usable, that is for sure.

A good reference site, with laws quoted: http://www.tintdude.com/

Ditto... be sure to look it up. Some states will list a certain max percentage for the windows front and rear... others the front is illegal and rear is ok.

And just to add more confusion to the thread, in some states like colorado, you can tint all the windows except windshield a maximum of 28%. However, you can legally tint all your back windows at 5%, but then you are not allowed to have any tint at all on your front windows. So in some states it is not as cut and dry as is it legal and what percent. The darker on certain areas of the car, dictate the darkest limit on other sections.

i know for a fact in Tampa, you can have no darker than 15% tint.

none of the cops used to care how dark you had it until one night (not too long ago to my understanding...i heard this from maybe a 5th person down the monkey chain) that some car was ramming all the other cars on the street. the cops couldnt get the car to pull over...the cops opened fire on the car cause they couldnt see into it. when the car finally stopped, it was two 4 year old out on a joy ride and they stole their mothers or grandmothers car...

thats the story as i heard it (even the not sure part about whos car it was)...i never cared to look up the authenticity of the claim either...i just thought i would share..

apparently its cooled down a bit, but cops still supposedly pull people over for tint that they think is too dark.

                      i dunno...ive never had a problem...and i have 5 on my back, 10 all over...none on windshield

                        Window Tinting Under Attack?

I dont know what is going on in your part of the country, but window tinting seems to be under attack here in the Atlanta area. I have done more retints making cars legal here in the last year than I have done in the past 3 years total. Maybe it is because all the depts are running out of money or are broke and are trying all they can do to generate revenue. Pretty soon the wont allow iwndow tinting at all at this pace...How will we hide electronics at that point?Anyone notice this in your part of the country?

Window tint doesnt help all that much anyway. You're screen will still wash out in direct sunlight
