  • NEW Xenarc 705TSV Monitor

Has anyone had any experience with the new Xenarc 705. I've seen it on Ebay for $298 and it's at $269 at www.karpc.com.

It seems to have good brightness and contrast ratio.

I'll be removing my stock head unit in my 05 Xterra. I was hoping to stick a monitor in from behind with minor fabrication.

    Thanks

Ah, I see they are now cutting corners a little, the 700tsv had 5-wire resistive touchscreen - now only 4-wire.

    a Shame really.

I don't think it's a replacement to the 700TSV. The folks at karpc.com were telling me it's a more economical version off the 700TSV designed to be more competitive with the Lilliputs and other lower priced monitors.

I purchased it. Saved me $100 compared to the 700TSV. I personally think it's crisper than the older 400Nit 700TSV my friend has. I can't compare it to the new 500Nit as I have yet to see one.

here is the 5-Wire Resistive Tochscreen Advantage (copy/paste from xenarc.com):

-5-wire resistive analog technology is superior to 4-wire, 8-wire and resistive matrix technologies
-Most durable resistive analog - drift-free operation even when exposed to temperature fluctuation
-Life span of 35,000,000 touches versus 1,000,000 touches from 4-wire resistive
-Increased optical clarity equals higher brightness and a sharper display
-Greater touch point density means better accuracy
-Faster response time and increased speed
          -No external electronic correction needed

So, getting the 700TSV for $100 more seems fair to me, you get 100 more brithness and the things above.

What do you guys think ?

ps: need to decide on a screen asap since its the last part missing for my carputer

            blah

I just bought the Xenarc 705TSV and am very disappointed. I can't get the thing to display in it's native 800x480 resolution. I have tried it on two different video cards, both of which support that resolution. They have a FAQ where they recommend PowerStrip software (not free) if you are having problems with it. That is just wrong.

i should receive my 705tsv in a few days, nothing to blame on the screen here i think but more your crappy video cards. Have you played with different drivers ?

I'm in the same boat. I had 800x480 on my first dry run then reinstalled the OS, drivers, and bios and now can't get it to work right. Biostar emailed me their custom resolution bios and I am able to get 800x480 however the monitor only recognizes 600x480 so the screen is unusable in that configuration. Tried a few different computers, a few different video cards, same result. If I could find a guaranteed mATX/video card combo that does it properly I'd pull out my credit card right now.

so this is a problem with the screen ? can't you return it under warranty ?

I will post my finding once 705tsv received

I have something similar. It appears at the 800x480 scale but the monitor's "Information" section on OSD says 640x480, and the display is distorted as if it were scaled rather than the native resolution. The two display adapters I've tried are the Lynx3DM (OQO) and ATI X800XT All-in-wonder. The Lynx gave me these results, the ATI result was all messed up, stretching an 800x480 display into the top half of the screen with a blank bottom half, and the OSD info said 1024x768.

I don't think it's the screen. Like I said, it worked right once. It's not a common resolution and Biostar pretty much told me good luck trying to get it to work right. Like I said, if someone were to say X motherboard with Y drivers and Z video card is guaranteed to work I wouldn't think twice about getting it. I wish I could just force the Xenarc to display 800x480 so I could figure the problem out....this auto detect feature of theirs sucks.

800*480 is the Physical Resolution, if the video card supports it but the screen can't show it, then the screen is defective to me

did previous version had similar issues (700TSV/700tsy/etc...) ?

Yes, if anyone does get the OSD info to say 800x480 please let us know the display adapter you are using.

by adapter, you mean video card ?

if so, you should give a friendly call to xenarc complaining about the poor compatibility of the screen with video card in the market, am sure they'll do something about it !
