  • How do I pull apart the ribbon cable? (the connector is glued.pic)

I was taking apart my LCD yesterday to perform some 3M upgrades. It was very difficult because I basically had to take apart the LCD itself with the ribbon cables still attached. There were multiple ribbon cables, and each of them are attached to the circuit board with some sort of plastic clip mechanism. With these clips, you either need to pull out or pull up on the clip to release pressure on the end of the ribbon cable to allow for it to slide out. I have included a picture of what I am describing. However, in my screen, all the clips have a drop of red glue on it to prevent the clip from coming loose.

My question is...how do I pull the ribbon cable from the clip? Is there some sort of solvent to dissolve the glue? Or would I have to very gently cut up the glue (harder than it sounds)? Also, in the picture, is this particular connector the one where you pull up or pull out to release the ribbon?

That one is pull up. And as far as the glue, I would leave it as is if you can.

Nope, the glue sticks the black tab to its surroundings and hence prevents me from releasing the ribbon cable.

Is this a motorized screen? If it is, I would leave it alone, because those connectors can come loose in all the movement coming in and out of the dash, so they glue them I am pretty sure.

Yea its a motorized k301. I was just wondering how to take the ribbons apart in the future if I ever need to. I had done some 3M film upgrades to this screen and I basically had to leave all the ribbon cables intact. I would rather risk the ribbon coming loose (just plug it back in after) than to have to go through that again with all my lcd parts connected and propped up on my desk.

            Hi,

Funny I just pulled apart my K301 today as well.
            And mine isn't glued.

Solvents are tricky 'cause they will often dissolve or soften plastic parts. Your best bet is to gently pick at the glue with pin or needle. That usually works since those plastics don't tend to glue very well. Good luck.
