  • Easy Solution to 800x480 res prob

I have an FV25 mobo with the onboard video and was unable to run 800x480 resolution even using PowerStrip (custom resolution was faded out so I couldn't select it). Anways, I tried one of my old Voodoo3 2000 PCI cards and it works perfectly! I'd suggest just trying a crappy standalone card instead of onboard and it just may work.

I can see the helpful people here all queuing up to help you.

The difference between the 24 and 25 is that one supports AMD and the other Intel, and that is pretty much it.

Too bad we're all too stupid to help you. Maybe you should quit now?

Well, I thought the FV24 and 25 uses the same graphics chipset. But I guess not. Many sites show that both use S3Graphics video.

Yeah I know. just trying to help, man.

The difference tween the 24 and 25 is not that 1 supports intel and 1 supports AMD. They both support Intel. The 25 also supports the Tualatin processor. The 24 doesn't.

              According to http://www.spacewalker.com/english/m...asp?number=162

The FV25 uses VT8606T north bridge and Integrated Trident Graphics Engine. I couldnt find any drivers for the VT8606T Integrated Trident Graphics Engine. Most of the FV25 sites point the driver to S3Graphics.
http://www.oneononepc.com/ic/ic/sv25.htm shows that FV25 has "Built in Savage 4 graphics engine." Shuttle's driver site also shows that it uses "Savage4 VGA" I looked at the S3Graphics driver site. Savage4 doesnt use the VT8606 north bridge. According to http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=70 lower mid page, "Twister VGA integrated with the following Northbridges: VT8606 (on PN133T)" I looked up the S3graphics driver site https://ranger.s3graphics.com/380drv/ and the driver is for VT8606 north bridge. Now don't take my word for it as the FV25 uses VT8606T north bridge. I dont know what's the difference bewteen the T and the none T chipset. The only thing I can suggest is make sure that the system restore is turned on before you start installing new drivers. Then download and install the driver then reboot. If it works, check and see if it does the 848X480 like you wanted. My FV24 won't do 800X480 but rather 848X480. If it doesnt work and your computer wont boot, reset and hit F8 and boot to last known working condition or some schit like that. That's about all the help I can offer. If I don't sound like I know what I'm talking about then don't listen to me

You are way more patient than me. I don't accept rudeness.

I appreciate everyone trying to help but I originally made this post to tell everyone a SOULTION to not being able to run 800x480, not to ask for help. I already went through messing with powerstrip for hours, downloading new drivers, forcing winxp to 800x480 resolution, etc, etc and they all failed to work so I popped in an old Voodoo3 PCI adapter and with powerstrip I was able to get 800x480 easily with newer Voodoo3 drivers. I think a majority of it has to do with the drivers, but some video card chipsets just dont support 800x480 with new drivers or not.
